I was driving over from Reading. I left work at 17:30pm and headed for Brighton. The doors were supposed to open at 19:30pm

18:45 I was stuck in traffic in Gatwick.
19:45 I was stuck in traffic in Gatwick.
20:45 I was stuck in traffic in Gatwick.
21:20 I arrived at the venue thinking Frank may have almost finished. I walked past a coach outside and who should I bump into, but the man himself. He was looking a little flustered, but I managed to shake his hand and mutter "Hey Frank!".

"Hey!", he replied.

I left him to get on with it, as he looked like a man on a mission. I went in just in time to see the band come onstage.

The crowd weren't shouting for much except Pixies songs and Headache, which was a little infuriating, but generally the gig went down well. Those gaps between the songs are getting so short now, nobody knows when to clap. Was that the end of the song? Or is this just a middle 8???

I'm terrible at remembering set lists, but Veloria, New House of the Pope, a rocking Nadine, Cactus, Abstract Plain, Caribou and Horrible Day were among the many played.

Not much chatter, but band introductions and a heartfelt thankyou at the end.

This was my first gig with the Catholics and I must say that Rich Gilbert is a total dude. And these songs get better with every listen. Especially live.

Oh and I took a few video clips with my camera. Not sure how they'll come out. Can someone let me know the policy on posting links to video clips. I don't want to post it if it ocunts as bootlegging or whatever, but I'd be happy to if the rules allow.

I'll also post the photos tonight if they're any good.

Was a fabulous show. I decided to go at the last minute and of course it was sold out - but lovely fabulous McDave got me on the list. I heart him. :)

Here are the songs - not in order except the first three and the last three;

Cactus
Black Letter Days
Nadine

Robert Onion
Massif Central
Bullet
Horrible Day
California Bound
Jane
Cold Heart of Stone
New House of the Pope
I Need Peace
Caribou
Headache
Abstract Plain
Velouria

Encore;
This Old Heartache
Fare Thee Well

And I do it all again tonight! Yahooooooooooo...

Yes Brighton Rocked, The Catholics Rolled and The Man Ruled.
I thought the show was very interesting with the band playing virtually non-stop and The Man
introducing the rest of the band to the crowds as they finished their party pieces. He and the
band certainly looked up for it last night.
The stand out track for me was Bullet but I have to say the way the crowd exploded at the end
when Velouria was played did take me by surprise.
The only gripe I would have is that the sound balance seemed to go a bit mushy towards the last
half dozen tracks but I am not sure if that was just my ears giving up for the night. I hope they hold out tonight at the Astoria.

After the show it seemed surreal walking out onto Brighton Beach with my ears still ringing thinking Frank where is where is my mind?

By all means, post a link to a video clip or pictures of the show. As long as you have it on your own site, we're not responsible for it and even if we were, Frank is OK with it as long as you weren't getting annoying/in peoples' way.

It was an excellent gig, I wish he woulda stuck around at the end.... I waited for like an hour and saw about 10 seconds of the guy, just seemed a little aloof for my liking. Oh well.
I was the fella with the long hair and nerdy glasses if anyone from the forum was roughing it with us out the back!

Hey there doog. I was the guy with the longer hair than you. Man it was cold outside! the exchange "Thank you for making me want to play guitar"/"Thank you for coming" has made my year. Maybe I lead a sad life though.

The show was absolutely top quality. I thought the crowd sucked ass though- not very animated- no competition for barrier space.

Met two great guys in the Bristol bar before hand -Mark and Dr T. I hope I'm still going to five shows per tour when I'm their age!

MiscellaneousFiles- you didn't miss much in Serafin. Maybe it was just the venue's PA but they sounded bad

I do not heart Serafin.

I agree about the crowd - they weren't very pushy or excited until Velouria came on, which was kind of a bummer. The Frank songs are so fabulous. Oh well.

I went to the show in Brighton as well - was decent, but I have seen Frank Black at his best supporting his Pistolero album (which I think is his best solo) in Boston, MA.

Last night was a bit of a disappointment although the 1st half of the set was pretty good.

Rich Gilbert is a great guitar player but at times, was far too indulgent on the cheesy guitar solos rather than the Santiago-like noisy leads, which really was the problem for me (well it could be that I don't like the sensitive songs of Frank Black and I prefer the rocking songs like Nadine, I Want Rock N Roll, etc...)

Serafin weren't exactly a good opener for Mr. Black - I thought that they would be better supporting Placebo or somebody similiar, but not Mr. Black.

Serafin could re-name themselves 'shiteafin'... yes, this would please me very much.

Yeah, the set list was pretty damn good... the crowd seemed to enjoy the goddamn Pixies numbers, yet tracks like 'Nadine' and 'I Need Peace'... got 'em moving, so y'know...

I was the tall static guy relatively near the front slightly to the left of the stage with the long hair. Details, details...

I had a lot of fun. I enjoyed the songs, and that's good. Yes, yes I had a good night.

Ash had fun too. Good on him. Jack was moody. This was not pleasing. Frank was amazing. This is good.
