Traveling through the mountains of western MA this weekend I decided I wanted to know what y'all felt was the perfect road music. A peach of a friend lent me a bunch of really great cds, one being a comp, just for traveling. I think FB&tC's self titled, Bob Dylan's Bringing it all Back Home, Ariel's Win Again and that mix cd were my best this weekend. What do you recommend, either full cds or tracks to be put on a comp?

"Morrison Hotel" by the Doors. (Or the movie soundtrack.) Hate to say it, but "Black Letter Days" by Frank Black is good travelling music. "Houses of the Holy" by Led Zepplin. "Second Toughest in the Infants" by Underworld. "Harvest" by Neil Young. Anything by Johnny Cash.
There are so many...the car is my favorite place to listen to music, so I'm probably not very impartial.

I've gotten into several near accidents rocking out to "I Switched You" while driving.

Anyone who's seen "Stranger Than Paradise" knows that Screamin' Jay Hawkins is "good driving music".
I've driven up the 101 to Eureka while listening to FB's "California Bound" and "Humboldt County Massacre". Talk about appropriate.

Hey BLT - did you ever go to Skidoo? It's an old mining town, I think near Eureka. Those songs, and Screamin' Jay, are perfect for that place - Death Valley, too.
Juno Reactor gets my vote for good driving tunes. Among too many others to name. Ack! OK Computer is a shoe-in.

Actually Skidoo is near Death Valley (far from Eureka): http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/ca/skidoo.html I haven't been to it, though I'd love to. The only ghost town I've been to near there is Ballarat which is in the Panamint Valley.

Most of the time I need loud rock while I'm driving. Monster Magnet and Turbonegro are amongmy favorites to listen to in the car.
Unless I'm driving at night. My favorite night driving album is Sunny Day Real Estate's "How it Feels to be Something On". |

"FFVII" is probably Final Fantasy VII, the video game. I've played it before, but I can't remember what the Juno Reactor actually was. I know there were Mako Reactors that took power from the planet, so it probably has something to do with that.

I had Kennedys at first but figured I should copy yours since I know nothing much of the band other than that I dislike.. Anyhoo, I thought the Reactor in FFVII was called Juno but now that VoVat mentioned Mako I'm reminded that it was in fact Mako. Hmm, I must investigate.

Juno was one of the Mako Reactors in FFVII, wasn't it? As in, the Mako Reactor in Juno.
Jeez, it was such a long time ago...

I never did end up beating that game. I got caught up trying to breed the golden chocobo. I messed it up a couple of times and got really damn sick of racing the bastards to make them healthy enough so I gave up because I refused to go on without getting Knight of the Round. Maybe someday I'll go back to it. What a brilliant game and how about that music?

My friend beat it, but he spent forever trying to breed the golden chocobo, like at least a month or so. |

I never finished FFVII either. I was playing my brother's copy, and I think it was buggy and kept freezing up or something. Or maybe it was just because I went back to college. I don't quite remember. I liked FFVI better anyway.

Re: Juno Reactor - I finally saw The Matrix Reloaded last night, and it sounds like Juno Reactor was used in a lot of that movie - first song I recognized came in at around 10 minutes into the movie. |
