I'm doing a Pixies presentation for my American Music class. I wanted to get some different inputs from you all.
I'm going to have about 3 or 4 main points:
Tentative ones:
I. History/Background of the Pixies
II. Something about their songs/style, etc.
III. Impact they've had on alt/rock Music
IV. And I'll probably do a little Frank Black thing for my last point or for the conclusion.
Anyways, I'm not asking for you to prepare my speech, but any advice or crucial points that you think I should mention would help me out. I want to convince people that the Pixies are awesome and that they have impacted alot of today's music. How should I go about doing that? Also is there like an official history of the band? Like a book or a reliable website?
Here are a few bands that other people are doing: -Jimmy Buffet -ABBA
As you can see my "competition" is sad.

I would try to include some history of what came before them and how it lead to the band. By that I mean what bands indirectly lead to the Pixies (i.e. The Velvet Underground, The Beatles, ect.). You could use the Washington Post interview to inform this part of your talk. |

If you want to express their importance in musical history, you are probably going to want to include quotes from more well-known musicians and bands such as Nirvana and Radiohead.

Yeah, I definitely will mention Nirvana since everyone will know who they are. Radiohead is a good one too. I just need to find these quotes.

Bowie might be a good person to quote since he's had a lot to say about the Pixies in the past. |

Yeah, the old Kurt Cobain claim that Teen Spirit was his attempt to rip off the Pixies always carries good weight with They Who Do Not Know...

sounds like you've got things pretty well laid out. this is a cool idea.. good luck Derek.
you should try and incorporate some visual displays in your presentation (ie. Telletubbies).. |
