Hello!
Can anyone give me a little bit of help in regard to setting up a snitz forum? I've downloaded the latest release but when I read the tutorial thing it was talking about whther or not my server supported src or something??? I don't even know if I have a server. Does anyone know where I can find an idiots guide to this or something? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks guys

If you don't know what a server is, you shouldn't be looking at Forum code..sorry Guy.. |

I know what a server is but I don't know if I kinda have one. Sorry this probably sounds really moronic to people who know about this kinda thing. I thought a server was like a seperate computer that controlled all the traffic on a network, and I'm talking about offline. As for whther my computer has a server capable of running a forum and if it has src or whatever I'm just clueless. I studied visual basic for a year but I can't remember a single command, the whole thing went right over my head. Any suggestions Dave? I really love the whole snitz forum thing, and it's really pissing me off that's it's free and I just don't have the know how.

That's cool that you're interested in running a forum, guy, but understanding of this type of concept doesn't come easily, especially in a few chats here. You would probably be best served looking into the google message board search for this topic (or computer discussion boards on usenet), or going through books and reviews on amazon.com's site. Try visiting slashdot.org, there are a lot of links there that can point you in the right direction, once you get your "land legs" and feel more certain what you are dealing with. As you are probably unaware of the depth and breadth of what you are trying to achieve, you also probably don't understand that what you are asking of Dave, or anyone - to basically explain it all to you - is a mammoth task. Not that they wouldn't have the mad skilz necessary, it would just take forever, and that wouldn't be fair. VB won't get you much of anywhere, anyway. I highly recommend the O'Reilly publishing line for books on whatever computer-related topic you want to look into. Most of the authors (at least that I've read and heard about) are usually quite witty and make the subject at hand, which could very easily be overwhelming, quite enjoyable. I even read a little manual on vi for fun. Not that it wasn't useful later, mind you! Good luck to you - your ambition is very admirable! I hope this is helpful, if not in content, then at least through my good wishes.
First we sow the seed, nature grows the seed and then we eat the seed. Edit: I should correct what I said about VB. It can be useful, but if you don't remember much, it's not important to worry about first thing off the bat - you probably need to start with an overview of how to build a webserver. I'm no expert, that's probably why I have the time to ramble on like this! ;) |

Thanks guys, that all sounds like good advice. Ill check into those sites and see what I can come up with. If it all goes horribly wrong I guess I can always sign up for one of those in-built message boards, but I'm gonna give snitz a damn good go first! Thanks again :)

Hey guy, What exactly would the theme of your forum be? Just curious.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. Douglas Adams |

Well I've started putting a band together with my mates and it was gonna be the forum for the band site. I've got most of the graphics and stuff finished and I'll start giving the url out soon. I just need some content now :)
