Just had a few listen of their new record. Excellent, I'll buy it as soon it's released.

i'm not a huge strokes fan, but albert (guitar) is a really nice guy. over the summer i had the pleasure of having a drink with him and ben kweller at the knitting factory in nyc. i was there to see my friend play drums, he was there to see his girlfriend sing. real nice guy

I bought "This it It." I'm gonna sell it on half.com soon. It has a few good songs but the album is weak in my opinion. They seem kind of overly-hyped up.

On the Strokes, I'll have to go with the overrated faction. They're okay I suppose. Seems to be that they're already re-writing the same stuff, like their buddies GBV, who are indeed good, but have essentially been putting out the same record for ten or so years. Does anyone remember Kingdom Come? They got so blasted by the media and music fans for being such an obvious Zeppelin clone, yet the Strokes haven't been bashed once yet for the oh so obvious Lou Reed parallel. "The Modern Age"....I mean....come on.... |

Definitely overhyped. They need to get back to the GAP commercial they came from. Some of their stuff is decent tho.

Ok they're young, rich, slim, and all but they really have great songs, and their new album is really excellent, may be not as innovative (?) as Doolittle was at its time, but the quite as good.

I like 'em. They aren't the greatest thing ever (not even close), but I'll buy their new record. I caught them live a couple of years back and they delivered. Good band. Overhyped, but still a good band. |

I know he did it, I wasn't trying to take credit for it, I just figured everyone knows the song like you and I. So please calm down.

Overrated? Yeah. Good band? Hrm. Yeah, I'd say so. Great band? No way.
Television rip off? Nah.
Lou Reed ripoff? Sure. I can groove with that tune.

I love the strokes. With the White stripes, i think they're some of the best rock band in activity. I don't care about the hype, i just listen to Is this it and i think it's a masterpiece. SF

Haven't listened to them much - maybe one spin through Is This It. Didn't really grab me, but that's not to say I won't give it a few more spins. But it's not really fair to judge them based on media hype. Anymore than it's fair to judge Frank based on media panning. But I'd agree with the overrated/hyped comments otherwise.

I saw them and am seeing them again on Sunday. The first show I went to was lame..the set was 45 minutes. We waited 4 hours for those fuckers to come on and I was out of my skull smashed and can't even remeber half of it. The place was too big with way to many high school groupie girls. Even though I love some of their music..they owe a lot to other musicians they stole from.
ummmm i dunno |
