Is this just the one song or an entire concert called Subbacultcha? Maybe you can post about it in the FTP section and get it uploaded.

you can't just upload them yourself but I believe you can ask for them to be uploaded. Then again there is very little Pixies stuff on the FTP and I think that they want to keep it to a minimum so who knows?

Being off the radio doesn't really make them any more legal -- the copyright in the sound recording is still owned by somebody. Besides that, many bootlegs -- Subbacultcha included I think -- are recorded from the radio anyway. Give live bootlegs the OK, Dave and co!

it's an entire concert from '91.
i agree with druggedbunny, let's get some boots on the ftp. these bootlegs are mostly out of print, there's no other way to get them.
do you think the pixies made money off of these bootlegs?

Up till now, Dave Noisy and his cohorts have been narrowly skirting the bootleg issue by trying to only offer recordings that were actually recorded off of radio or TV, or have been tacitly approved by FB himself (like the pre-Pixies boombox demos).
While it may seem like a silly differentiation, when Frank or The Pixies allowed themselves to appear on radio or TV, they knew in advance there was the liklihood that folks would tape those sounds and might trade them around. In that respect, those doing that are technically infringing on the musicians, but are much more directly infringing on the broadcasters who own the copyright on those particular performances.
If the BBC or any other radio or TV station notices this FTP site and wants the stuff removed, I'm sure Dave will do it. The fact that most everyone connected with Frank and his bands know about what goes on here and have chosen not to demand the stuff be taken off probably has a great deal to do with Dave's decision not to allow just any fan-recorded boot on this site (which many folks still seem to think is actually run by or endorsed by Frank or The Pixies...).
Don't forget - flaws and all, Frank did test the waters for marketing his own live concerts for a while, which would put such an idea in direct competition with the guy who inspired this site.
There's no reason to risk alienating FB, his management, or anyone in his band, when there are plenty of private places springing up every day where everyone can get MP3s of boots like the one you asked about.
Noexx has one, for instance, that archives much more stuff than this FTP probably ever could, and he's made a thread in the Trading section to tell people exactly how to access it for free.
Any way - I'm all for keeping things the way they are. Sometimes half the fun of finding a boot is tring hard to track it down (is my age showing?).
