Steaknsabre and I checked into Aurora Sinai hospital on September 24, and my doctor pushed up surgery time, so Samuel Robert Wensing was delivered via C-Section shortly after noon (12:04 to be exact). He weighed 8 lbs 7 oz, was 19 inches long. He gave us a bit of a scare the first week -- severely jaundiced such that we had to keep him under these UV lights, which really hampers all that important cuddling stuff (not to mention making nursing a pain in the ass), but now things are back to normal (constant all-nighters feeding until I can manufacture more milk) and of course I'm not getting a lot of sleep, but that's par for the course.
This should explain why you're all not having to put up with my tirades lately.
By the way, Sam is staggeringly beautiful. And Stella is quite taken with him. Except for being constantly hungry, he's a very mellow baby. I think he's a rather old soul. Even when he was born, he cried really loud (very "WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!") but simmered down rather quickly.
And if you ever have spinal anesthesia (more intense than an epidural, let me tell you), watch that "Dura-Morph". Great stuff, but makes you itchy as hell. One shot lasts 24 hours, a good thing to block the pain of an infant trying to latch on for the first time....

Very large and copious amounts of congrats to you and steaknsabre. I know he'll turn out ot be a great person. I saw you guys a few months ago at the Frank show at the Double Door. Hopefully this was a particularly formative moment in his brain development. Good show!!!

Congratulations! I've been wondering how the little guy was doing (and you too, of course). Glad to hear that he's a happy and mellow fellow. Those bili lights are no fun--I had a nephew who spent a few days under those. Z had a mild enough case of jaundice that we could get away with just sunning her at intervals throughout the day. She was a lovely golden color.
I was in the presence of a 3-week old baby the other day, and I'd forgotten how often they nurse when they're that tiny. It's like, settle down in front of the tube, 'cause you're not going anywhere for a while. Hope you enjoy your downtime and eventually get some sleep.

The third season of the Simpsons on DVD is saving my sanity and life.
And you haven't seen American Graffiti or Pulp Fiction until you've seen it in Spanish. (or english with Spanish subtitles). I'm trying to re-learn spanish, and the one thing I'm learning is that american slang (especially early 60s slang) just doesn't translate well. Or they didn't really try hard. The subtitles are so straight a spanish-speaking person would really miss the point of either of these two movies.
But Marge Simpson in french (try the dub, not the subtitles) sounds frighteningly natural.
Freq of GLOW -- of course we remember you. And I suspect listening to FB in utero will have a profound effect on Sam. My favotire lullaby (like lullabys actually work these days) is Speedy Marie and it holds his attention. Good Boy!

Congrats Veronica & Brian, who I'm sure will be making an appearance here soon enough. I suppose I can give Sam an extension for getting on the tribute since he was otherwise occupied being born and all, but tell him he has to email me by tomorrow at midnight or that's it.
Seriously though, congratulations to both of you. On the Simpsons DVD and the baby. :)
