This is subject to change at any time, especially when I stop thinking of SMYT as "the new album" and start to appreciate it on its own merits. Frank's albums usually take some time to grow on me. Actually, I could probably say much the same about Pistolero (not that it's new, but I haven't really listened to it as much as the others).

| I'm sitting here listening to Pistolero and thinking, "you know, I seem to remember the general consensus on the board being that Pistolero pales compared to the others." I feel it's underappreciated so I check back at this thread and see that I put it at # 8! That may have been a mistake. Anyone else find it interesting that Pistolero is all over the map here and that there doesn't seem to be much agreement on it? I mean at least with the others there's some consistancy but Pisto is just never agreed on. |

I would put TOTY and FB both on very top of the list. Cult of ray is very nice too, place 2 I would say.
For different reasons, I stopped buying Frank Black records after FB&TC came out. Just recently I bought BLD and DW, which both disappointed me a bit. DW has its moments, but I think after Frank joined the Catholics (or vice versa, that's it) his music dropped a bit. A good producer or musical colleague, like Eric Feldman or Gil Norton, is definetely missing.
Anyway, I must buy all the other records now, because I'm going to see him on the European tour, and then I want to sing along !

there are definitely songs i don't like on this disc and i didn't
like it as much as the first catholics' release at first but it has
grown on me much over the years as a much better disc than i originally thought -i recently found it on vinyl that was put out by spinart and i just dig it.
it grew on me as a result of listening to compilations of all of his stuff mashed up in driving two hours everyday - it has a certain grit to it that is kind of a peak in the waveform that is the classic frank
black and the catholics' sound -it's a great LP.
