I have several b-side songs without titles, and maybe you can help identify them. ------- #1 Starts out with acoustic guitar playing in 5/4 + 4/4. First lyrics “I’m the man of constant sorrow.”
#2 “I said if you need me, you’ll find a way” “I’m going to lay my body down” A 50’s feel.
#3 Starts out with a Jimmy Hindricks sounding guitar. Sings with a high nasal voice “Where’s all your money… keep you from sickness..” Good song, by the way.
#4 Slow tempo with slide guitar “Sleep now sleep” Sings very high, very different from the low notes he’s been hitting lately.
#5 Starts out with guitar chords with offbeats. “when there’s nothing left to say, and all the clocks have faded away.”
#6 Starts with a drum fill, then a little instrumental… until “But we already threw our shells away….hollow’s ground….from New England….They sold an island to some German…”
#7 The drummer counts “1.2.1.2.1.2.3.4.” Fast with piano, then instruments come in. “I smoked some other chicks, that night you came. In 1986, but who complaining?”
#8 Piano or guitar sounds? “Far off in the distance, I can hear the bells. Beside a church…a girl I knew so well.”
#9 Acoustic guitar playing 2 difference chords, then band comes in. “We played a battle rage, me and my brother….like no otherrr.ohh.” -------- It’s pretty freakin’ amazing to have over 230 of Frank Black songs, by the way.

#6 = Humboldt County Massacre (the lyrics are actually "The Wiyot through their shells away")
#8 Sister Isabel (a song that the Catholics have covered numerous times on many occassions, including the Peel Sessions)
#9 Le Cigre Volant (or 'the flying cigar')...about a UFO encounter
sounds like most of the songs you are asking about are on "Sunday Sunny Mill Valley Groove Day", which is kind of an unofficial album/session that has been passed around.

Very close, but it's "clouds" instead of "clocks." SSMVGD is a very fine cover of a very fine song by Doug Sahm. Try it, you'll like it! :-)

Is there any relation between Frank's "Constant Sorrow Man" and "I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow" from O Brother, Where Art Thou? I'm assuming they're both different versions of an old standard, but the tunes are very different.

I don't really see any relation exept the theme of the "constant sorrow man". The lyrics aren't even close i reckon. Isn't the Soggy Bottom Boys version from the film the original one? and they just used it for the film?..anyone knows?? |

I think it's a traditional song that's been covered many many times in very different ways.

I have one, although no to do wih FB. I am sure this is a Neil Young tune (as i sounds like his distinctive voice). I was watching a film the other day and this song came on (cannot remember what song i was (could have been Friends)). I have the tune in my head, and the words 'I'm still in love with you' which I think is in the chorus. Can anyone help me out, as I really want to get a copy of this song?
