Inspired by the roaring success of Ramona's top five thread, the two FB songs that I would like to accompany the sound of the soil hitting my lid are: Monkey Gone To Heaven (yeah, I know it's a P****s song, but he still does it live, so it's in) ...and Horrible Day, because its got that always look on the bright side of life vibe which sort of says "shit happens - let's get bladdered".
NB: "bladdered" is English for extremely drunk. Also, if anyone who reads this happens to be terminally ill, I apologise in advance.

As much as I like Frank Black, I don't think any of his songs will be playing at my funeral

my personal fave terms used in england for "extremely drunk" are "rat-arsed" or "wankered". lol
i think i'd have the snake- cos no one can have a funeral without a wicked saxophone solo
and..........
space is gonna do me good. blatantly because i'm gonna be the first person ever to have my ashes scattered in space. maybe just my rotting carcass if i decide cremation ain't for me.
*has anyone ever done that before?*

"Where is my mind?" and "Abstract Plain" seem appropriate for the lyrics. I'll be feed into the fire. Maybe "Blast Off" makes sense then.
But, I would probably pick something timeless and classic, like Duke Ellington and his boys showing how it's done (sorry I don't want to divert this thread off of FB) |

Didn't someone already have their ashes blasted up into space? Not sure if they were scattered or if they took a roundtrip. It may have been Gene Roddenberry. |

Probably someone has already done this, because that's always what I've wanted to have done with my remains, and I doubted I was the first one to think of it.
I want my body propped up in a chair at my funeral, with some sort of intricate electrical system that can make my hand move back and forth in a waving motion, and my eyes blink, and a tape recorder that says "Welcome to my funeral...please be seated..." in my voice. And in the background would be playing "Dead" by the Pixies.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. Douglas Adams |

I had Adda Lee playing in my head all through my grandmother's funeral, years ago... it served me well.
I'd have the Pixies' take on Cecilia Ann at concert volume. Blast Off would be a good 'un too.

Manitoba so that everybody will cry into their pints and Headache so that people realise that I'm not actually dead coz time is not a linear thing, so maybe later they can go through a wormhole and see me again.

i think i'd have to go with Tony's Theme for one of them.. hmm.
Surf Epic might actually be apprropriate for a funeral.. in a David Lynch sort of way..
i'll have to think about it |

I think i would have to pick "Blast Off" cause my soul is free, "Hermaphroditos" cause by then every one will be wondering what the hell is going on, and finally "St. Francis Dam Disaster" cause there is nothing like a song about a disaster to liven things up |

Not to worry.
No, she didn't literally whisper anything like that, but the strangely positive feeling was there throughout the funeral, despite the sadness of the circumstances -- purely because of that song, and lines such as that quoted/"Heroine from the stars", etc...

Actually, I have told my wife repeatedly to make sure and play Freedy Johnston's "Arriving on a train". And if there's time, if no one's in a big hurry to leave the funeral home I'll also have her play Sparklehorse's "It's a wonderful life". No Frank Black. None of his songs fit the mood. I'll enjoy him while I'm alive, I guess.
Idea for a new topic: Songs you'll have playing from a discman inside your coffin...I'd probably have White Zombie's "Dragula". Or maybe "Why me Lord?" as covered by Johnny Cash. |

Dancing the Manta Ray and Bailey's Walk, and ahead of time I'd have planned a synchronized dance for everyone to do around my coffin as these songs played (naturally with breaks so everyone could stop, tap, and spin when needed) |

The "Duke of Earl" cover.
I can't think of anything else. I'll be dead. I don't care what they play. |

No Frank Black or Pixies. I aways pictured the song "there's a place in Hell for me and my friends" by Morrissey

That is one of the best ideas I have ever read. They should have done it at Princess Di's funeral. The very thought of the great and the good (including that fat ponce, Elton John) stopping, tapping, and spinning in a kind of Danse Macabre sends me into convulsions.
