Hi Frank,
Will you be playing any USA gigs with the Catholics before the Pixies reunion? Gigs in the DC area? Come on back to the Black Cat.
What is your favorite acoustic guitar to play?
Thanks for all the great music.....your songs have provided me countless hours of listening pleasure. |

Hello Mr. Black, here are some questions. Won't living in Portland make it harder to get The Catholics together for rehearsal/recording? Who is Billy Radcliff? Did Tom Waits ever tell you what he thinks of the Black Rider covers? Thanks! |

Did your therapist actually say 'show me your tears?' -i picture more of a Sopranos type thing... the Sopranos is a therapeutic show i found as it is always good to know how messed up other people can be.. mine is a sweet old lady -she's cool though.

Why hasn't Weird Al Yankovic spoofed a Frank Black and the Catholics song?
Can you stay at my house if you ever play Asheville, NC? Free lodging, and free food (Crackers and water, maybe cookies if you guys behave).

-Do you have any comment regarding the pre-pixies dorm room demos that are available online? (Draw Attention, Fight With Honor, Just Keeping In Time, Silhouette) Please say you don't 'cause i uploaded them and i would hate myself if you had objections on this.
-I suppose that an official word on the rumoured Pixies reunion is asking too much...Or no?
-The oddballs 2 is a great idea. Here in Italy it's kind of difficult finding your singles so i hope we'll see all those b-sides soon.
-A collectionist question:have you ever done a song with Stephen Malkmus named "hello David Carlsberg"(or something similar)and one with Bono "Bullet the Blue Sky"?
Thanks, see you at Milan(though i would prefer that Placebo opened for you and not vice-versa)

What are your intentions on making a song about Jainism? Do you have a personal interest in these beliefs?

I inadvertently gave you a squeeze with my right hand while my wife and I were having our picture taken with you. The camera was about to pop and the anticipation caused my hand to stiffen. I was regrettably wearing a "SPAM" t-shirt. My question is, did I give you the creeps? |

Or is Jaina blues about hiding in your religious beliefs? I dont know, maybe asking direct meaning of songs isnt a very polite thing to ask about. Alright
Thanks. |

I have a ton but I'll be brief...alledgedly! 1. The places you name in songs - are those the ones you've visited at the time or just random locations that spring to mind during the process or writing?
2. Do you currently hold any beliefe that we'll ever know the truth about outer space and live harmoniously with other nations on earth?
3. What was the worst tour & why? - did you ever recover any of the stolen bits & pieces?
4. Which albumn was the most gratifying to make/write/record?
5. In a ideal world if you could have your choice of musicians and venues and crowd to play to; which ones and why?
6. Numerology figures alot in your music - have you researched this or are you intrigued by patterns and have a set theory on their significance?
7. Is there a chance of you playing I will run to you in Edinburgh? (its my birthday and I'm trekking up from the wilds of Kent nr. Dover so I figure its worth the asking)
8. The talking intro's are very much a part of some records to my view - is this going to feature in future recordings or is it more incidental?
9. Do you ever think it will ever be possible to see you & David Bowie/ Teenage Fanclub on the same stage? Have you talked about this at any time?
10. I'm curious as to why you played into the white at the underworld - threw me for 6 tell the truth - was it something you'd been doing a while or just a whim?
11. Is there a God?
12. What's the one thing is this life you'd not be without?
13. Have you ever stopped and analysed the lyrics to your songs or do you merely give them air and leave them alone?
There we go!
Thirteen salty questions & now I'm off to get ice-cream!
Thanking you for your time sir!

Dear Frank,
What about :
- an OFFICIAL live album ?
- a best-of including your fans' 12 or 14 favorite songs and some rarities (Duke of Earl, Valley of Our Hope, Don't Clip Your Wings...) ?
I'll be the happiest man on Earth if you play these 3 songs in Strasbourg on Nov. 6 : Speedy Marie, His Kingly Cave & Pan American Highway.
Greetings from Massif Central.

On Sunday October 12th, as you have no gig, there are much worse places to cool your heels than in Cowes on the Isle of Wight (just across the water from Portsmouth & Southampton). Shitloads of excellent harbourside bars and resturants, more sailin' and shorin' than you could wave a stick at; and, in the very unlikely event of anyone recognising you, just say that you are in a Pixies tribute band, and smile as they shuffle off bemused but contented. Besides, celebs and royals are a common sight in Cowes (it's the yacht thing), so I'm pretty sure that you could chill out without ever hearing the words "Pixies" and "reunion" in the same sentence. We've already had Iggy Pop on Devil's Island this year (playing the festival), and he enjoyed himself so much, he went and bought himself a holiday home here.

The Session you did with Glen Hansard... rather than going it alone, why he? Are you a fan, a friend, or just happen to share the same PR people here in Ireland?

ask fb a question? i would ask him if he pays any attention to world politics, and social concerns in the america, and countries around the world, and to what degree of interest these topics are to him. also, a follow up, what are some of his concerns, and perhaps even delights about the world we all live in together.

Okidoki Frank,
1) i've always thought that your songs contained so much emotional energy that has (mostly) not been reflected in the lyrics. If so, does this reflect the same processes that you have been refering to from psychotherapy.
2) My thesis is that, besides the musical qualities, such a dissociation may have been very attractive to people with similar ways of dealing with emotions. The anger displayed by some of the more prominent members of the board surely suggest some kind of maladaptive way of dealing with emotions. Ever thought about the psychological makeup of your fans?
3) If you quoted your therapist correctly, my guess is you are seing either an experiental therapist or a short-term psychodynamic therapist who confronts you with feelings and points out your defences. Maybe even a transference interpretation once in a while. Any comments? None of my business really, but I think it's a good thing when people are open about psychotherapy.

Ivandivel? More like Ivan-drivel... I've never read such inane psychobabble in my life. Do you actually think you're convincing anyone by using phrases like "short-term psychodynamic therapist" or "transference interpretation?" I especially love "maladaptive way of dealing with emotions." What, creative expression is maladaptive? Pray tell, Doctor Drivel, what is an "experiential therapist" and how does he/she differ from say, a gestalt therapist, or a Rogerian therapist? Put your schoolbooks away and enjoy the music.

Have you ever heard the song, and especially read the lyrics of "Striped White Jets" by Guided By Voices? |

What can I say? These are things I think about, they may not be my business. I thought this thread was reserved for questions, so i won't join in on a debate about the psychobabblic nature of my questions. |

I read somewhere that it was eight drinks topped off with Nyquil and a blow job. That'll put any man to sleep.

I heard that you had originally planned to do "Apache" as popularized by The Shadows instead of "Cecilia Ann" to start off Bossa Nova. I think I'm one of the few Yankees to really dig the Shads, and was curious if it was ever played live or otherwise. Why was it nixed?
New album is really nice. For some great country music, You ought to check out the Glazer Bros CD compilation. Tompall Glazer wrote "Streets of Baltimore", probably best know by Gram Parsons. Thanks again. |
