Every now and again, people mention movies they have recently seen on the forum. I thought maybe one thread would be a good place for people to sing their praises or post their complaints about any type of cinema out there.

I'll just start with "The Life of David Gale," one of the most recent movies I've seen. It's pretty frickin' good. (I suppose I'll try to limit my amount of cursing, in real life but starting on this forum.)

If you haven't seen the movie and plan on doing so, don't read this post, as it will give away the ending.

I thought the movie was very well executed, and Kevin Spacey is a darn good actor. (These substitute curse words just don't have the same effect.) I loved him as Vincence in "LA Confidential" and as Lester Burnham in "American Beauty." (Which brings me to another point. Has anyone paid attention to the musical score to that movie? It is done by Thomas Newman, and it is VERY cool in a strange, Enya-like way, only much, MUCH better than Enya.) He is equally good as David Gale in this movie.

The clincher is at the end, when Bitsy airs the tape of the girl comitting suicide, and she sees Gale in the footage. That really got to me. I find it hard to believe that there are people that feel that strongly about a cause, because I for the most part just concentrate on my lil' family, working and trying to make ends meet. I find it difficult to focus on the bigger picture, and whenever I do it is difficult for me to reconcile that with what I see in my day-to-day life. Mostly I guess it's just that I haven't yet formed my own opinions about major issues that plague our society. In the context of the movie, I couldn't correlate how, even though David Gale was not portrayed as crazy, his ultimate behaviour was very unbalanced -- it was a point of his life he had to reach by going through a bunch of traumatic shit. (Oops. I let one slip. Much easier to type this apology than to go back and erase.) Not to bring up religion, but there are a lot of groups out there -- including many religious -- that would not condone such behaviour, but the people in ancient times that made themselves into a martyr for their causes (which is essentially what Gale did) were sainted and still remembered to this day.

I don't like bringing up heavy stuff, but this was a very good movie and I welcome anyone else's take on it.

ANYWAY, that movie wierded me out much more than the other one I've seen recently, "House of 1000 Corpses," which I mentioned in another thread. Also, it was alot better than "Identity," which I saw earlier tonight.

"...you can see here by my grin I don't give a fuck..."
