FRANK BLACK AND THE CATHOLICS Show Me You Tears (Sonic Unyon)

As if Frank needed to get any blacker - here's his heart on a platter, pulverized but good by the female of the species. Ouch. Here comes the pain, the anguish, the waterworks. The opening lament to Nadine, a lady dressed in black in a big grey car, is classic Frank: all beat, sweat and devilish desire. He may be suffering, but the music sure ain't, and there's a Neil Young falsetto later on. Well worth the wait. Recorded, as always, viscerally live, and this time with oddball guests like Stan Ridgeway and Van Dyke Parks, Show Me Your Tears is a twang rock noire slab that rates right up there with the Pixies' best work.

Great little review. Of course, it rates right up there with his solo best work, too, but...
