Just to prove that GJ3 (why '3'?) is just as full of hot air as my commonplace BCC-bait...
His first reference about Iraqi folks, with 7 of 10 saying their lives will be better 5yrs from now....i bet you would have had similar results before the US's attack (it wasn't a 'war'.) Who ever really says 'my life/country will be worse 5yrs from now'?? I'm surprised 3 of 10 did.
And as far as 'government models', i don't think i could name that many...
If i didn't have to go and get the laundry from the dryer i'd mechanically refute all his points. |

dave are you actually stupid/ignorant enough to think iraq isn't going to be better off in the long run?
whether you think the war was a good idea or not, and whatever reasons you believe that, you have to agree that iraq will be better off (like afghanistan) without a despotic crime family running the place.
especially considering how much money we are putting into not only rebuilding what was there but developing better schools, etc.
blah why am i even wasting my time... |

it's the underlying argument to what you were saying.
the obvious answer to the actual question you were posing is yes people do say their country will be worse.
i believe the US becomes a worse place to live every year lately, don't you? i don't see it being better in 5 years. i wish i had reason to believe it would be but i don't think it will.
iraqis have even more reason to be pessimistic. |

hmmm..guess i'm not quite the pessimist i thought i was. I have a slightly elevated view of the future..
An interesting side-note..ours is a generation (say, from the 80's on) without the 'good old days'....i sometimes worry i'm living them right now. |

well i was born in 1978 so i don't know if i fit what you're saying or not.
i think anyone who believes there was a 'good old days' is just remembering a time when they were more ignorant than they are now. |

Well, i'd guess everyone is less ignorant today than they were yesterday..short of being in a coma or some weird mental disorder..
Hmm..perhaps the 'good old days' are based on ignorance tho.. Like, say, racism or sexism wasn't really considered, and so things were 'simpler' for them white folks, now they gotta watch what they say, and being aware of the condition of the entire world sorta puts a damper on everything...the old 'ignorance is bliss' maxim.. |
