I don't think about it too much. I like Show Me Your Tears, probably a little less than Black Letter Days or Devil's Workshop, but probably a little more than Dog in the Sand or Frank Black & the Catholics. As to whether Frank and the band continue in their current direction, whatever they decide to do is fine for me. I like the old FB style of his debut album and Teenager of the Year, and the more country-inspired sounds of Black Letter Days and Show Me Your Tears. There's ALWAYS something I can get out of each of Frank's albums, and I don't think SMYT suffers from any lack of inspiration or creativity on his part, although of course as with almost any album there are songs I like more than others. Frank in the past has exhibited a knack for knowing what exactly he wants to do next, and he hasn't let me down yet, so I have trust in his next logical progression.

I'm very glad SMYT hasn't kept the first sounds of Frank Black's first album. Can you imagine if he had gone this far, without wavering from the original sounds of the orange album? I would be very bored of Frank by the 4th album.

Love the album. Everytime I listen to it I get hooked on a different song. Today it was "Jaina Blues". I really dig Eric Drew Feldman's organ part (very "Two Spaces").

The other day it was "The Snake".

How does it compare to this or that? I don't know. I just know that Frank's got a vision and these songs are really well-written.

Frank--Come back to the states and play Boston! We need a BIG LIVE Black, Catholics CONCERT with a Pixies 6 or 7 song set encore, recorded for the world on DVD. Sell Shirts from your entire career!

I love most the new album. I skip songs 3,4.5 + 6. The rest make up for it.

I hear a lot of familiar bits and sounds. Do you hear Leonard Cohen? (This old heart..) LLoyd Cole? Frank Zappa? Garth Brooks? Seasame St. Rocks? Billy Joel?

Black is on a roll and I'm thankful now that I have a solid MP3-CD's worth of greatest hit's I can play on random all day at work. The country and piano rock songs are great. Blacks vocals are what touch us.

I think the above and Black Letter Days are a tie for my favorite Frank Black album covers ever. I recall a thread a while back about album covers, and I said my least favorite was the FB&TC self-titled. I guess it's kind of grown on me, 'cause I kinda like it now. I guess my least favorite would have to be COR.

The "yellow" or "orange" album or whatever the fuck we're calling it is cool because of the symbols, like the little guy playing the violin...

I'm not sure, but I think mine is orange. I'll have to check.
