i've yelled for it too, but it doesn't seem they've been rehearsing it.. |

Along with announcement, Pan-am is one of my favourite B-sides-how was this song not considered good enough for an album??? |

It *was* on an album - an unreleased album called 'Sunday Sunny Mill Valley Groove Day'. Try and find a copy!

Does Frank ever play B Sides???? Ive never heard him play any at the gigs Ive been to, except Remake / Remodel but thats a cover version and not a b-side I think (as he mentionned Roxy Music after he had finished the song).. |

pan am rules..
b-sidewise, he usually throws some in there..
for some reason, there are certain gigs (around here) that he always plays a lot of b-sides at.. when he plays McCabes Guitar Shop (the best place to see him) he always plays tons of b-sides.. |

i think the outro to pan am is sublime. cool lyrics too - it would be criminal not to redo it.

yeah i know spartacus - i just get the feeling that frank has probably decided to leave that album in the past, especially as he's re-recorded what he considers the best songs from it, so any new version is... unlikely.
not that i wouldn't drop to the floor and pray if he played it live :)

Not sure I understand this. Pan American Highway also appears as a b-side on the Cooking Vinyl Robert Onion single, I think from the same SSMVGD sessions. Though he elected to omit it from DITS, that is pretty high profile placement. My sense is that he doesn't feel the need to to re-do it, and that he would view it as one of the best songs from the SSMVGD sessions. As for not playing it, he does't play St. Francis either, and they seem similar in mode, at least to me. But, as I said, I may misunderstanding Joe here. - Mel |

Mel pretty much said what i was going to say..
as for not re-doing songs, i wouldn't ever put it past Frank to include something from the past that hasn't officially had a release. it seems to be his modus operandi (to sound pretentious) that he'll play around with songs for a long time sometimes, but eventually they'll find their place..
look at Dog In The Sand.. or, for instance, Subbacultacha was one of the first songs he ever wrote.. circa Come On Pilgrim.. what are some of the others?? obviously Modern Age and His Kingly Cave have been around for a while.
aren't there are few songs on TOTY that were written during the Trompe days?
i'm sure there are plenty that we don't even know about.
i guess with Pan Am Highway, like Mel said, he won't throw it on an offical album because it's technically a b-side.. but i wish he would. or at least play it |

We can always hope for an Oddballs 2. There is already lots of songs to add to it.

Also "Dig For Fire." I recall reading somewhere that this was one of the first songs the Pixies rehearsed together.
