I think my fave is in Custom Concern when he says "Gotta go to work, gotta go to work, gotta have a job", that cracks me up, he makes it sound so painful.

solid show. great to see them live. sound was pretty good. but it was pretty funny cause they were tuning their instruments on stage-it seemed like for an hour before the show. everyone was expecting them to play but they kept fuckin around. i think they drove in from saskatoon (9 hours) so maybe they didn't have time to test things out before the warm up bands.

Here they had 3 opening bands, that's at least 2 too many. They didn't go on till about midnite or so. I felt like saying hey it may be friday for you but its tuesday for us. It was good though. I would've liked to hear All Night Diner. Boy I'm really freaking tired today.

It didn't seem right though that there were tons more people at this show than there was for FB. I like MM and all but really.

Yeah, that's not cool. But I get the feeling FB is about to get a lot bigger with this new album.

at FB I had enough room to dance like a madwoman, at MM I couldn't move hardly.

For the record:
For the Frank show this year they sold all the tickets they had printed but demand was such that they printed off a bunch more the day before the show.

I personally thought the crowd was just about the same size for Frank Black as it was for Modest Mouse (which really surprised me), but it seemed bigger because it was all university students - it is a widely documented fact that students take up more space than the average human. The part of the floor I was on was so crowded that I think the girl in front of me thought I was doing some very rude stuff to her. It was a bit less crowded towards the end of the night, probably with people who had to work and the like leaving. I actually had room to dance for the last half of the MM set, and I talked with the bass player from the second band. He was pretty cool.

And Carolyn, I was watching for a "sparkly green necklace," but had no luck. Next time a sweet show comes around (Poison on Friday *nudge-nudge* to which you respond with whatever you choose to show disdain) we should set up a meeting and I'll buy you the paralyzer to end all paralyzers! Nobody calls me cheap and walks away sober!!!!!

Nothing is ever something.

My brother is about 35 and at one point he said to me "JC I'm havin a hard time stayin stoked for 4 hours." I forgot about these walls are paper thin until I heard it, I love that one.

Nah, I wasn't the guy, I was two feet away from him though. He prepared that climb for about three songs before he finally decided to do it. Guy did better than I expected, he must have made it about twelve feet. They were actually trying to get a human ladder going to push him higher, and I thought he was going to try to get up to the ceiling fixtures, but he ran out of gas. It was funny anyhow.

I was surprised at how many bands played too, the four to five band thing is something I always had kind of associated with punk shows, but you see it every now and again I guess. Staying interested isn't a big problem for me most of the time, but I must admit last night I couldn't believe how long it took Modest Mouse to set up. I couldn't see anything particularly special about their gear that would make it necessary to take that long.

I haven't decided whether or not to go to Ween. People can never believe it, but I've only heard a few of their songs. Since they're coming, it'll give me a good excuse to hear more. Then I'll consult with my wallet and make an informed decision.

Nothing is ever something.

Glad it was a good show at least!

You'll like Ween man - get their new album.

Nah, they head due south. Don't even come to Saskatoon, the bastards. I'm thinking I'll probably make it out there for it, but it seems strange to be in Edmontonia twice in one month.

Carolyn, Crispy Water (hello by the way, my name is Micheal, I like FB and poorly built catamarans), we should definately hook up at the Ween show. I'll be the one on stage during the song 'the Mollusk' screaming into the mic "bring forth the Carolyn, cast unto me, let's be forever let for, ever, be free!". Then I'll pants Gene Ween and maybe hug Dean Ween. Or vice versa. Anyway, we should all share a drink and discuss all things revolutionary. And, Carolyn (or Crispy, if you like), I'll hand deliver to you a burned copy of the brilliant record by them Broken Social Scene kids, and then you can listen to it and love it in time for their concert later that month. Now we got a plan, Stan.

Okay "Michael" sounds good. How come in the mollusk they say there's 3 things that.... and then he only says one thing, where's the other 2 things??? Maybe if you're lucky and/or I'm drunk enough I'll gaze deeply into your eyes while lipsyncing Stay Forever. Youl know the only video I saw for Ween until just a little while ago was Push the little Daisies which btw cracks me right up and then I just saw another one recently and I was like holy shit you guys didn't age so well... But I will politely take my leave during songs like piss up a rope, Dean says that's your favourite song.

I said nothing of the sort. You can't prove anything. But I can:

I much prefer "Mr. Richard Smoker" from that record. Piss Up A Rope doesn't really do it for me. Everyone knows my fave Ween platter is White Pepper. EVERYONE.

Hey I didn't write that! You did Dean.

Mike (I can't call you Michael cuz that's what I call my husband when he's in shit and okay I'm gonna be totally nasty here but you can actually say I call out your name during sex .) you didn't answer my mollusk question, cmon make some shit up, it'll be fun.

Also, do they really play that Loopdeloop on Sponge Bob? My daughter loves that song, its cute to hear her sing it.

My bro just showed me the video of Ween's cover of Hot for Teacher, neat but I don't think they know all the words.

Well, if you were to call out my name during sex (which apparently, you do, thanks kid), that would spur my mollusk from the sand.

Ok, now for sure you have to go look up loopdeloop, its on a kids show called spongebobsquarepants. Its the cutest song (yes it is by Ween) about how to tie up your shoes. And you never said anything before about the Homo Rainbow, do you know it? That's the very second Ween song I think I ever heard and is probably my second fave.
Nice one line responses, I feel so special.

NRBQ is a band. Of course I know Mr. Square Pants, he excites me in ways I only tell my minister about during confessional. I've never heard of Homo Rainbow, sounds like the official name of the colour used for our moderators kitties. You are special.

so back to modest mouse for a moment. been listening them to a lot since i saw them play live. real glad i got a chance to see them in concert. so anyways i checked out their website and looked around on their forum, wanting to see a few live reviews. very amusing to say the least. and i thought their were a few immature pricks on this site. it seemed like most of the members are under 10 with major social problems. seeing all that crap kind of turns you off of the music.

Did you go into the concert cold (i.e. having never really heard any of their stuff)? I've never really done that. I've gone somewhat cool before, having heard a few songs or whatever, but I'm always afraid to go in without having heard ANYthing. I should try it someday, though.

ya i've been to bands before without hearing much of their music and had a great time but went with friends who were really big into that band. i find that as long as the sound isn't overly loud i can better appreciate the music. as for modest mouse i only started listening to them about two month's ago when a buddy got me the ticket. at first their music didn't do much for me but about after a week of listening to them fairly constantly i really started to get into. then after the show i had a new sense of appreciation and have now really been playing a lot of.
