anyone checking em out? i haven't seen em before and looking forward to see them in winnipeg next sunday. would like to hear some comments if anyone is seeing them this week. my buddy tells me he's into modest mouse like i'm into frank so i definately have to check em out. i'v been listening to them for a while and it's taken me a while to get into- at first i found the singers voice a bit annoying at times. but then recently their music has been getting addictive in a good way.

They rawked the holy jihad. =)
Man, Issac is INSANE!!! He just about completely demolished the entire stage on several accounts!!
It was SO damn cool to hear so many songs live, lotsa 'different' versions, extensions, etc..very nice.
The new songs are sounding really cool too. =) |

Man, how did I blink and miss this? Well, once again...saved by the precious Internet. I'd better go to the Edmonton show. I just started listening to Modest Mouse about a month ago and I kept thinking I bet they'd be good live in quotation marks and now here they are! Thank you, informative individuals.

Wow a fellow E-towner is right! I've only met two people in this damn city that liked Frank Black before they met me, so it is kind of a surprise. But anyway...

Damn I wanted it to be a surprise (what they looked like) and then they were all over our local See magazine.
Crispy Water, did you not go to Frank in April? |

Yeah I went to Frank in April. Actually, I bought 23 tickets and managed to get that many people to come. It was my 13 year old brother's first show (lucky little guy) and my mom came too (not many people can boast that their mom has the same favourite band as they do) and they actually met him after the show. That was one of the best nights of my life: I've never thrown a party at my place or anything, so that's as close as it gets for me. So many people I love...and they all had a blast! I couldn't have been happier. Then the show itself was just beyond amazing. Frank Black earned himself a number of converts in my social circle that night. I have one buddy that still thanks me every couple weeks for talking him into coming. This guy's entire music collection consists of the Eminem catalog and a few Metallica discs, but he absolutely loves Frank Black.
Enough from me though; what did you think of the show, Carolynanna?

Of course it was awesome, I've told this story like a million times but I met Frank and I just happened to have my camera and he stopped for a pose and then my pictures didn't turn out. I was crushed, I would've had posters made and a new screensaver etc. OK I'm getting misty now. It was extra good because I never thought I would get a chance to see him. Hey you weren't one of the kids in front of me who were busy with their girlfriends applying makeup and such, cuz I gave those kids a royal tongue lashing.
Modest Mouse, they somewhat look like what I thought, and somewhat not. |

Nah, that wasn't me. I was the nerd at the front screaming along to every song. Though some bitch did give me a "royal tongue lashing" because I was standing where she had been before going to get a drink. I mean, it was fuckin' general admission, and she was absolutely choked that I didn't assume she would return to the exact same spot. Oh, good old people.

Well, my mom loves Headache (I heard her singing it to herself one day and I stopped flat in my tracks), so that's a start. And she seems to like Speedy Marie, too. I made her a mix CD which has some other stuff on it, too, and so far she's a much bigger fan of Spoon and in particular, Everything Hits At Once.
And my uncle (who sang on His Kingly Cave with us) and aunt both got mix CDs but they don't know any song names so it's hard to discuss with them... but my uncle (who, incidentally, also wanted to do HKC in a very hard-rock style voice) was grinning ear-to-ear when I put in the CD I made and went to Tame. So we'll see... |

Maybe I'll just have to drink them right out of tequila before she gets there, will that save me? I mean from Carolyn, not from getting what some call as sick as a dog.
