A friend in Champaign IL. said Frank opened with a (10 minute?) version of "gouge away" and played other Pixies stuff too. Not that I prefer the pixies, but if anyone knows about any truth to post-cult-of-ray pixies versions I'd like to hear about it. -spy303 |

not sure what you mean by post-cult-of ray... you mean present day Frank Black? If your question is has he been playing pixies songs with the Catholics, then the answer is "si" (aka "yes").
Songs off Doolittle, Come on pilgrim, and Surfer rosa. Dunno if he's played any bossanova or trompe le monde. He's been playing Pixies tunes at his shows for well over a year.

Has Frank ever played songs from Bossanova or Trompe? As when Ive seen him he's always played songs from Come on, Surfer and Doolittle. I'd love to see him do U-Mass, Ana, Is She Weird and many others, without reducing the amount of FB and C songs. Would be cool. |

I would love to hear a few songs off of Bossanova since that is my favorite Pixies album. I think the catholics could definitely update Blown Away, Havalina & Hang Wire.
I wonder why he chooses not to play anything off of his last two Pixies albums? |

I think we will be waiting for songs off of Bossanova or Trompe for long while. Don't know if his sound nowadays would compliment the sound he/they captured back then? Would give anything to hear some though!

My wife and I saw him play in Cleveland 4-20-01 at the Beachland Ballroom... There he opened with a VERY SLOW version of Nimrod's Son... No... Its Not Off of Trompe or Bossanova... But it is a POST Cult of Ray Version. Some asshole in the crowd was trying to take pictures and pushing over a big sound stack of speakers which forced frank to halt the show... He continue with the normal version tho.

He's been playing more and more pixies in his sets for awhile now. I first heard him play a couple w/ the catholics in dallas about 4 yrs ago (at Trees). I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually hear velouria or bird dream again. |

Hi
I saw Frank last year in the UK, the venue was pretty small and could only fit about 100 people and the show was great. I thought Frank did not play Pixies songs anymore but he kicked off the show with gouge away and he played a couple of other pixies songs like Wave of mutilation, monkey gone to heaven and the mighty, sublime Where's my mind ??? Thanks Frank !!!

Last tour I saw him 3 times and he did several Pixie songs each show. Cactus always seems to pop up. They did a really cool, really slow version of Monkey that made you feel like it actually has some hidden meaning. I guess it's just kinda wierd to be in a crowd chanting that.Something off Bossanova would probably make me swoon. |

There was a post by some guy once claiming that Frank played 'Allison', maybe in a one off gig. I've never heard that confirmed or denied.
I really envy all the folks who got to hear Frank do 'Cactus' must be really cool with the Catholics. |

I half-way expect to hear Cactus on this tour. He played it in Dallas a couple of months ago during his abbreviated tour. He also played Freedom Rock which is a live rarity in my experience and I have seen pixies/black francis/FB/FB&TC's a couple of dozen times. I love the pixies stuff, but, his catalog as a solo artist is so thick right now that I would almost prefer that he spend more time digging a bit deeper into his solo stuff. |

He played a bunch of pixies in Chicago, he did the slow Nimrods son, some others, he did a set that started out with about 5 pixies songs, then he played about 10 songs off Black Letter Days and Devil's Workshop which were unreleased at the time. I think he was saying, I'll give you what you want now listen to this stuff you haven't heard. The whole thing was great |

I'd love to hear some Pixies stuff when he comes to Winnipeg. Gouge Away is one of my all time favourite songs. It'd be cool to hear Bone Machine and There Goes My Gun too. |
