I was so excited to see that the band was heading my way again so soon after that great show in Columbia, SC. Unfortunately I can't make any of the Sunshine State gigs as I'm preparing for a strange show of my own at the exact same time.
My band Superhorse is playing on a float in Savannah, Georgia's St. Patrick's Day Parade, which is the second largest such celebration in America, right behind NYC. It's kind of like a weird redneck Mardis Gras with a noticeable infusion of bohemian types from the large private art school we have in town.
Anyway, this is the first time in the 80-year history of the event that an original rock band has been allowed to perform amidst the elderly marching Irish families, politicians in convertibles and such. It's a cinch that no matter how much we tone it down, seven guys in black clothes and sunglasses playing screechy VU-style Vox amp/Hammond organ rock will turn a lot of heads.
That's why I'm so disappointed that Frank's travel time through our area is on the 18th, not the 17th. If he were off one day earlier, he could join us on the float and play in front of something like 85,000 bewildered people, many of which would most assuredly go absolutely nuts.
So, if he reads this and feels like cancelling that last Florida date (ha ha ha), just send me a note...
(it can never hurt to ask, right?)
