I dont know what the chances are, but I do remember seeing you walk back to your seat during the show. I wouldnt be able to point you out of a lineup or anything but I do recall you walking during the set. There are always good looking women at FB shows too. BTW Floop, I did not know that you were back in LA, we should go to la taquiza sometime. As for into the white, I think I remember seeing you. Were you wearing shorts?

that's pretty funny. so, how was i doing? :) just kidding..
yeah, both nights went well.. it wouldn't be ethical of me to give details on a public forum of people i technically don't know, but, yeah, no horror stories.. one girl i've seen again this very weekend.. so there you go. as it turns out, Frank Black doesn't make for the worst dating venue. i have first hand experience.
MikeW, i checked out the missed connections on craigslist. that's pretty funny man. i wonder how many people actually get re-connected that way. what are the chances of someone actually checking missed connections the day of a missed connection?

Mike, I did wear shorts and a black shirt on Friday night.
I actually wrote the missed connection about the Morrissey jacket guy. lol. I just wanted him to know I thought he was cool, and I hoped someone would tell him that. Maybe it will make him have a good day.
p.s. floop, you looked like you were doing just fine! ;p
And there ain't no day... And there ain't no night... |

IntoTheWhite, I was sitting right across from you to your immediate right, on the other side of the walkway. I was in the first seat across from you, my girlfriend was sitting next to me and next to her was a heavy set guy. We were giggling alot through the show, we thought Frank was funny that night. The Morrisey guy was kinda gay looking, come to think of it, I think we were sitting next to each other in line? We were sitting right in front of that guys motorscooter or whatever it was. |

Question for anyone who was at the Saturday 8:00 show... my wife and I were in the third row, all the way to the right. Sitting behind us in the fourth row was a skinny bald guy, probably in his late 20s. Some broad from the first row (left side) approached him about 10 minutes before the show and said, "Michael, I'm a big fan of yours.... blah blah blah..." She went on for 5 minutes telling him she's a reporter and wants to interview him some time. She was also blabbering about Bakersfield-- she worked there as a reporter blah blah blah. After the show ended she approached him again, in spite of him trying to go out the rear exit to avoid her.
Anyone know who this Michael dude was? I couldn't place him, though his voice sounded familiar as she made him feel distinctly uncomfortable. |

mikew, i'd have to go with In-n-Out, choosing between those two. but i do have my other secret burger places .. have you been to Ribs USA in Burbank? the name speaks for itself. beyond ribs, they've got amazing burgers. i always get the bbq bacon cheesburger.
yes, i'm going to die of a heart attack by age 32 |

I think you are referring to "Ron Boldt's Bacon Backyard Burger"-- a circulation stopper if ever there was one. Being a Burbank resident and all, I've been to Ribs USA more times than I can count. |

BLT, that's too funny. i was going to post the whole name, but couldn't remember Ron's last name. indeed THAT is a burger. it's probably my favorite place in Burbank (i work in Burbank right now, so i usually get over there once a week or so)..
i love Ribs USA because it's so not-LA. it could be some place in the mid-west or something.. it's refreshing to go there being inundated with "be seen" hollywood type places.. |

This thread is going to turn into a "places to eat in Burbank" discussion. Where do you work in Burbank? Ever go to Yaki's or Pinocchio's? I work in Pasadena so I'm not likely to run into you in Burbank on weekdays. |

i think a "places to eat in Burbank" digression is appropriate since Frank has recorded so many of his albums here in Burbank. yeah. that's it.
i work right by Yaki's, on Main St., just north of Alameda. haven't been there yet. i'm saving it. the name isn't the most appealing though, admittedly.
where's Pinoccio's?
i'm also a fan of Poquito Mas.. and Riverside Grill isn't bad.. got any more recs? |

Pinocchio's is a cheap italian deli-type place on Magnolia a few blocks west of Buena Vista. It used to be super-cheap but they raised the prices. They've got decent sandwiches and stuff. I go to Yaki's all the time. Teriyaki bowls and such.
If you like carne asada, check out Casitas Tacos. They're in a mini-mall (where else?) up the street from you at Victory and Magnolia, next to a donut shop. Man, they have amazing asada tacos.
Speaking of Frank's studios (gotta steer the conversation back to FB), I've tried to figure out where the Clubhouse is/was, but I haven't come up with anything yet. |

I know, this doesn't make any sense. At all. But here are the songs from each album (or band, like the Pixies) Frank played at the McCabes show:
PIXIES: Holiday song Into the white Where is my mind? Velouria Cactus Caribou Mr. Grieves Wave of Mutilation Monkey gone to heaven Nimrod's Son
FRANK BLACK: None
TEENAGER OF THE YEAR: (I Want To Live On An)Abstract Plain Headache
FRANK BLACK AND THE CATHOLICS: All My Ghosts Dog Gone Six Sixty-Six Solid gold Suffering
PISTOLERO: Billy radcliffe
DOG IN THE SAND: Robert Onion Bullet The Swimmer
DEVILS WORKSHOP: Whiskey In Your Shoes
BLACK LETTER DAYS: The Black Rider California bound Cold heart of stone Valentine and Garuda
SHOW ME YOUR TEARS Everything is new Nadine Horrible day Manitoba This old heartache New house of the pope My favorite kiss Massif Centrale Goodbye Lorraine When Will Happiness Find Me Again
I just like statistics. But what do we know by now? I guess he doesn't seem to like singing "I wanna live in Los Angeles" since he moved to Portland... |

Clubhouse is on magnolia between pass and rose ave. very easy to miss, I heard that they closed down at least 7 years ago. another place that Frank would visit was the Coral Family Restaraunt, thats right across the street from Master Control studios, so I guess it was just convenient. Pinochios sucks, tonys Bella Vista(across the street) is great. I ahve been to Ribs USA once. Go to Frontier Wok, great chinese food.

BLT, went to Casitas for lunch. thanks so much for the recommendation. i don't know why i hadn't checked them out before. i'll be going back there. right up my alley, as far as what (i consider) Mexican food should be. and i'm kind of a snob when it comes to Mexican.
as soon as i walked in i saw tons of thinly sliced beef being grilled up.. always a welcoming sight.
got the carne asada tacos of course. i'll have to try their carnitas before i can fully vouch for them.
thanks again.
i bet you anything Frank Black has been there.. (see: Frank related) and if he hasn't, he would like it.

I agree, Tony's Bella Vista rules-- my favorite pizza since Julio (Eagle Rock) retired. We go there all the time. Frontier Wok, too (both of 'em). Coral, too. Quite a few show biz people eat there. We used to eat at Barron's a lot until it burned a couple years ago. |

I thought the guy next to me on the other side of the aisle was by himself, then two blond women sat next to him and they were talking a lot... Were you right behind them? I'm trying to remember. Maybe you were right behind me in line... did you guys leave the line for a few minutes and then come back?? As for the Morrissey guy, I guess I thought it was cool that he was (or seemed) "older" but he still wore his leather music jacket and whatever. So many people either grow out of stuff like that or give it up as they grow older. I liked that he seemed to do what he liked and didn't care if he seemed a little dorky or something. Then again maybe it's just me and the guy is really a total dick. :o
As for Burbank, I wish I would have read this earlier. I ordered Chinese and considered the Frontier Wok, but I didn't know if it was any good.

Yes, we were right behind those blonde women. I was the first one, next to me was my girlfriend and next to her was our friend who is often hated by other FB fans, Johnny Malta. I think Malta and my girlfriend were standing in line in front of you, they were eating weinerschintzel. Anyway, Frontier Wok is good, Coral has excellent navy bean soup on tuesdays, there is also a decent chili dog place called Larrys Chili Dog just a few blocks east of the Coral. Oh and there is an excellent deli over by John Burroughs High School called Ottos Deli, excellent sandwiches! That is all for now. I am going to bed now. Good Night. Oh and if you order from Frontier, get the Wes Noodles, yummmy |

chickenwithtwoheads, that's interesting (steering the conversation back to McCabes).. interesting that he didn't play anything off FB self-titled.
MikeW, (steering it back to food in Burbank) where is Frontier Wok? |

There are 2, the original one is on Hollywood Way/Burbank, next door to the motorcycle shop. Frontier Wok Too is on Olive across the street from the Safari Hotel. |

Hey guys,
I was at the Saturday 8:00 show at McCabes. I was sitting about 5 rows back on the house right side of the stage in jeans, a black dress shirt and a Faux-Hawk. (you know one of those quasi-mohawks that you can cover up if the situation requires less punk rock.)
Anyway, that was me if you saw me there.
