Just curious - any other GLBT FB fans out there? I know I'm not the only one. Guess I just always wished I would meet my dream man at a Frank Black show. So far, no luck. If you don't feel the need to ut yourself in this forum, just shoot me an e-mail.

All I can say is that I sincerely hope you two don't get flamed (no pun intended. Actually, it's funnier with the pun. Pun intended.) off this board. I would hope in these enlightened times poeple (especially FB fans) are accepting of others and are good hearted people. If you ever decide to tie the knot, come to Canada. We may kill seals like it's going out of style, but at least we allow consenting adults to have the same rights as everyone else. While I'm not gay myself, I fully support gay rights, which I think an be shortened to just "rights". Everyone should be entitled to the same rights under the laws of our respective countries. Cheers! |

Bartholomew, how'd you end up in the coffee? Bartholomew, were you goin' down in FLAMES
I challenge the blow torches! Bring it on...I'll kick all your asses! Just kidding (but I will if I have too!) Thank you Speedy M for your concern and acceptance. I think for the most part (as is in the real world...you know...off-line?) people are pretty respectful these days. I think it's more or less people just don't care! There's too much going on to worry about bedroom antics. We all just need to be patient and do our best to help the next person. That's it. I wonder what Frank would think about all this? Pixies have a gigantic gay following for some reason. I dunno...let's see what happens next.

If they got "flamed" off this board, I think that would be enough reason to inspire me to leave.
I say welcome and good luck to ya! Hope you meet your dream man, and let me know if he has a straight brother.

What a lovely and accepting microcosm this forum is. I work in the gay community and encounter many stereotypes, one of which is that all us homos only listen to vapid, pointless, droning club music. It is my goal to stand up (along with you, TRANSMARINE) and smash these narrow views. QUEERS ROCK HARD!!! Thanks for the support Speedy, Ramona and Night.
And for the record, no, sexuality doesn't matter . Good people are good people.
Good luck TRANSMARINE. And any FBqueers in Chicago, drop me a line (can't fault a guy for tryin")

i'm proud to be a citizen of a country where gay seal clubbers can marry in a palatial igloo, in matching lumberjack tuxedos. i'd venture also to say that the sex appeal of the pixies is evident from the first howl you hear from frank's lovely larynx.

Sweet Jesus. This message board has hit rock bottom. I thought the Frank Black too fat thread was vapid, but really, if you want to be treated equally then don't advertise your sexuality, of any kind, on a MUSIC website already open to all kinds of people. I don't see the pathetic straight loser Canadians on this board beggin' for a hook-up. Obviously you haven't been able to avoid the gay stereotype of broadcasting your sexual preference to people who don't care. I'm not angry, or offended, just bored. Sorry for being un-P.C. folks. |

Considering how (clearly) turbid general acceptance of GLBT's is, i'm quite happy to entertain a thread for 'em.
This *prolly* should be in 'General Chat', but i'm not gonna move it. =) |

I'm with astrology (even if I don't quite understand his entire post.) No one bitches when people post topics looking for other fans in their geographic area or occupation. I see no problem w/folks mapping out sexual geography (or occupation) either. (And in case you've been slumbering under a rock for the past year, the straight folk on the board are always talking about sex. Or at least I am. So sue me.) People have patiently been debating the merits of cling wrap and weighing the pros and cons of various types of wallet for weeks. I don't know why this thread in particular would offend anyone.
Keep reaching for that rainbow, fellas! |

Yah, I agree, 'General Chat' is the place for discussing one's particular sexual picadillos. But if it's gonna stay then let's discuss this. A friend of mine just found out (by snooping around) that her boyfriend of a year, who happens to be a successful lawyer with two children, has a subscription to an online porn site dealing exclusively in "chicks with dicks". I wonder if this is why Frank Black got divorced? While we're at it, could somebody tell me why I am so antagonistic? |

dear sister-in-frank, i live in spain so just tell you than roman legions fought sweeter struggles in their tents during the night than battles with barbarians and that is not as old as it is here. well thre have been timer of repression of course, but always there has been a level of tolerance while it were kept in privacy.} for me the goal is that the people should go to have drinks in places not by the sexual option of the persons inside but by how good is the beer or the music that sounds (if it is frank better) so we got all mixed up and everything backed by love considered not only normal but good. sorry for my bad english i try to do my best

Like it or not, I would say that in the next five or so years no one will bat an eye when someone turns out to be gay. (Unless they are trying to get some guy's attention.) It is not a new thing. It was accepted in ancient Greece and Rome, and it will be accepted in the society of the future. When I was young, I had never even heard of gay people. But they existed. Now, I work with them, and alot of them turn out to be more personable and more fun to be around than many homophobic straight people I know. Does anyone out there know anyone from when they were young, that turned out to be gay, that they had no idea when they were younger?

It's true this thread probably belongs in a general chat. However, what if the topic were Frank's Gay Fans? Or Cult of Gay? Or Teenager of the Queer? Or simply Gay Guys who Like Frank And Want To Chat About It? Would then it hold a court in the Frank Black General Chat forum? Or should there be a whole seperate forum built with the intention of Frank Black fans, gay and straight, to meet on-line, chat about the Big Guy, and possibly see what goes from there? Like a Cupid Corner? The Frank Black Love Shack? 'Cause I agree...a sexual identity sponsered thread may be uncomfortable for certain people (from the 1900's) who shouldnt have to come to this website and feel like they're gonna be forced to turn gay. I can see the logistics of that. But I also feel that being pushed into another forum in my favorite website is also a little rude. Any comments/suggestions/ideas?

Good question...
Who would feel like they're "threatened" to turn gay? Obviously, the person is not very decided upon their sexual preference in the first place. I wouldn't have a problem with a gay forum on this website.
Quantum nonlocality does not prove that "signals" travel "faster than light." Rather, it shows that at a deep level of reality the speed of light as a limiting factor is irrelevant because phenomena are instantaneously connected regardless of distance. |

Thanks Glacial906...however I was never good at math. (I'm just messin' with ya!)
Just so folks are aware, this thread was transplanted into this Forum as opposed to the Frank Black General Chat Forum where it had originated...
I'm not trying to start a war...I've never even been an outspoken person before actually! I just want to know where I can be involved as a guy (who happens to like other guys and wants to flirt...gasp!!!) who seeks the same kinda friends (of all walks, mind you) while talkin' about Frank Black and not have to worry about being thrown into a void of a general forum?

The Frank Black chat was created for the purpose of talking about Frank, not for revealing one's sexual preference. Chances are pretty damn good that you're gonna find other Frank Black fans wherever you post on this forum.

Dear brother-and-sisters-infrank
well i feel very safe and understood in this forum, hope everybody feels the same. remember franks song: I left my sperm in a gay named frisco or cisco, i am still looking for it
well EL HOMBRE has spoken, so well i think the most unconfortable thing about homosexualkity for straights as me is how gay might i be? well things must be taken out,and we must remember that homophobic has the phobic root tha means fear, fear is also so hard to feel.

I was gonna post something growly to all the people who are moaning about this thread - but what's the point? Of course, like Miss Mereubu said most of the straight people here have done plenty o' talking about sex and things themselves.
ANYWAY, I've got nothing but love for you and while I am the very proud daughter of a gay dad (thank you very much) I can't think of any gay men in my world who are huge Frank Black fans. I promise to keep my eyes open though.

I once had a sociology/family studies course in which we covered the topic of homosexuality. The people that wrote the textbook believed that homosexuality came about from a combination of genetic and sociological factors. They had quite compelling evidence for the genetic argument such as differences in parts of the brain, and there was some stat that showed that if you have 2 identical twins with the same DNA, if one was gay the other was as well in an overwhelming # of cases. But noone ever explained any sociological factors. One day we had a student from the rainbow society come and talk to us and I asked him what kind of sociological factors to which he responded by blasting me with stuff like "What does it matter, we're all just people" but never really answered my question. I just don't know of any of these sociological factors and I don't really believe that there are any factors that could turn people gay or "give people the gay" as Mike would say. Any thoughts? |

I'd be interested to hear evidence that it was genetic as I always had a tough time believing that. But being a straight man myself, I certainly have no way of backing up that it's entirely sociological, I think it's just easy to say it's genetic or that it's born into them because as heterosexuals we have such a difficult time imagining WHY on earth anyone would want to be with someone of the same sex. Well, I can understand the women... :)
That wasn't meant to be a cut, incidentally, just honestly saying that I (and probably many others) just can't understand it, so it's easier to say there's some outside force that controls it rather than to think it's someone's choice. But don't let me rain on your gay parade. |

that's cute, I always take my kids to the gay parade every year. A friend was at my son's bday party, the kids were all 7 years old, and he promptly started telling telling them that there were 10 of them there and the stats say 1 in 10 and that probably one of them was gay and they didn't even know it. The kids were pretty freaked out and one even told their mom about this guy that told them 1 of them was gay. It was pretty funny at the time. As for the genetic factors I will look through my textbook b/c I've forgotten most of it. but the brain thing was true, they did autopsies and found that some part (I forget) looked quite different in size than for most non-gay people. Again I'll look it up. |

I think it's important to note the difference between the concept of being gay and the behaviors associated with it. Being gay in itself is very likely a result of genetics, but the behaviors associated with it are a result of a strong influence from a very closely knit gay community. The nasally voice that many gay people adopt isn't a genetic result of their homosexuality, it's being influenced by this community. The young angry teenager community abounds with Mudvayne fans. In the same way the gay community abounds with Barbara Streisand fans. Keep in mind that many gay people are very vigilant to being ridiculed so it's easy to see why a gay person could likely be influenced by behaviors that have already been established as okay rather then being completely unique. It's tough enough to be accepted within society as a homosexual, it's even tougher on a person to not be accepted by potentially the only community capable of accepting them as a homosexual. They may go out of their way to form an allegiance within a community. People look at the sociological vs genetic factors when determining the root of homosexuality, it's important to separate the behaviors, stereotypical as though some of them may be, from the root concept of being attracted to someone of the same sex.

Carolynanna - maybe it's not so much that people are 'turned' gay by social norms but that people are 'turned' straight by social norms...
Just a thought. |

TRANS: This thread was moved because it has nothing to do with Frank Black. Policy of the forum is that topics like this belong in General Chat. No single forum gets more traffic than the other.
Scarla: No, I don't think that's right. Humans, like all creatures, are made to reproduce...they have the drive to reproduce. In order to reproduce, there has to be one (1) female and one (1) male. The theory that we're all born gay and are driven to be straight is a little too optimistic for the gay community, no offense.
