Hmmmmmmm, good topic.
Don't really know/care which tunes are "cool" or not cool (singles?) (obvious godhead material even to the lamest of the lame?), but here it goes anyway

Two Reelers
Kicked In The Taco
Announcement
Parry The Wind
Solid Gold
So. Bay
Robert Onion

I agree with Thomas - they are all underrated. Except for us of course.

That having been said. Throw SUPERABOUND in there. Not quite sci-fi, not quite carnival.

And too, SO HARD TO MAKE THINGS OUT. The movement of this song is amazing. From kick-your-ass to the mild and mellow "philosophy".

What about 85 weeks - that song is great! - If you learn it on acoustic guitar you sound like a gun! (Mainly because my friends/ people I jam with etc havent heard enough Frank Black!)

I love 85 weeks -- I think alot of fans didn't like that one when Pistolero first came out.

Two of my faves not mentioned previously:
White Noise Maker
Old Black Dawning

Good news, Bart! I read this review today that said he played it live at the Northampton, MA show. Maybe you'll get to hear it on the reso of the tour.

My vote for most underrated song: Unsomnambulist.

OOOPS "Unsomnambulist" is really called "85 Weeks" isn't it? Oh well, a rose by any other name . . . Here's a link to that review that said he is playing "Freedom Rock" on the current tour.

I did notice there was another Chip on the scene after I'd already joined. Hey, didn't Frank start out a song with "My name is Chip"? I am planning to change it since you got there first, but so far my laziness and procrastination has won over. I'm thinking about Chip Ahoy Boy, who doesn't just love Chip Ahoys?

Voila! Name changed outa respect to the one who got here first. You're welcome Chip Away!

Some folks are saying that all Frank Black songs are underrated. While he is underappreciated by the mainstream, I still think this was a good topic for the board b/c he obviously has some generally accepted favorites by most of his fans that he often plays in concert. It was good to hear about some of the less popular tunes among the FB faithful that some people dig for one reason or another. "Western Star" is a great song that I don't hear much talk about.

Frank has so much good stuff it's silly. Have to say the accoustic version of Abstract Plain is amazing. On a Pistolero tip, Western star is up there and I think "You're such a Wire" is two minutes of perfection.

I agree with the comment that all FB 's songs are underappreciated. We should start a jahid against MTV. I mean - isnt that the real reason crazy zealots hate the West?
Any way - "So hard to make out" sums up His music, my life, and my fascination with His genius, and the present global climate. Oh yeah, and it kicks ass - did I mention that? Play it really loud in you car and impress all those pop chart condoning morons with how damn REAL this music is!!! YEAH!.........sorry 'bout that.

I know my opinion amounts to cocky-doody, but damn, that song is terrible.

One mans trash is another mans treasure and whatnot. King And Queen Rules I think as one example that six-sixty-six is the worst Frank Black track ever (im aware its a cover).

Yeah I heard him play a few from cult of ray on the 'Dog In The Sand' tour. Need to hear 'Freedom Rock' live. 'Parry the wind' is amazing so is 'Shazeb Andleeb' and 'Brackish Boy' and loads of others. But the most under played song that you hear nothing about thats great... well how about 'Man of Steel' from 'Songs In The Key Of X'. Its the only good song on the album apart from Nick Cave of course!

I'll go with Rattle on this one. Humboldt County Massacre is one that surely should have been on one of the albums but wasn't. I was surprised that Pan American Highway and Constant Sorrow Man didn't make it onto the two new ones. I've played all those songs for friends who are not really fans of FB and they were impressed with them.
