What are some songs you absolutely love but don't hear talked of often/hear played live/or that your fellow Frank Black friends don't seem to get too excited about?
I'd have to say:
Dog in the Sand. I love the guitar, very minimalist, and the whole thing is hypnotic, great lyrics too.
Places Named After Numbers: This sounds like a great lost new wave track, again, as with Dog in the Sand, I think it's really atmospheric and pretty (beautiful??)
Finally, I'd say Two Reelers. The dynamic where it switches from a punk song to that amazing chorus is just incredible, and I love how Frank sings "and mr. white..." This is the first song to 'grab' me off of Teenager, even before Headache, and subsequently lead to my slow falling in love with the whole album. |

I have to say my namesake "I Heard Ramona Sing" such a good song, and I barely ever hear it mentioned. |

Yeah, I can agree with "Dog in the Sand" and "I Heard Ramona Sing". I'm one to hit the "skip" button often on most any cds and while it wouldn't occur to me to put either on a mix tape, I never skip them either.
I'm a pretty big "I Need Peace" guy, myself.
I never have seen FB live, heard live recordings, or personally know other FB fanatics, so I have to assume "I Need Peace" isn't highly regarded.

Two Spaces. Super beginning! Awesome trebley rythm guitaring! Mint surf organ! Space! This has been my favorite since it came out. The live version on "Black Sessions" (opening the set) gives the author gooseflesh. Not ear candy; ear baguette and brie!

Agree on Two Reelers, that was my fave off teenager for a long time, Adda Lee is also very under-rated i reckon, and Suffering is definitely my favourite off FB & TC's |

Robert Onion, the slow start, gathering pace and the chorus with the Pixies style guitaring makes it one of my favourite FB songs. Don't Ya Rile em is also an all time favourite that people don't seem to mention.
I agree with Two Spaces, the first song off of the Black Sessions.... this was probably the song (along with Men In Black) that really got me into Frank Black. |

"Can I Get A Witness"
It sounds like the material Frank is turning out these days, but the song is a Cult of Ray bonus track. It's simple and I like it. Was it ever played on stage? |

The CULT OF RAY!
One of the best pre-Robert Onion rocking songs in the FB catalog! If I may refer to his body of work as a catalog. Anyway, I've never seen this song, as I missed seeing Frank on the Cult of Ray tour, so I'm dying to. Its my one favorite song on that album and I never see it.

I've got a feeling lots of people don't like 'Whispering Weeds', but in the right mood I find it fantastic. The percussion is worth the price of the CD alone! |

I have to say calistan as it is my fave Frank track...but also from Teenager 'Ole Mulholland'...I loved this song the first time I heard it and although it has gone down the pecking order a little, I still think it is a great song, especially the beginning. Agree with Don Eduardo too, Suffering is my fave from the self-titled Catholics album. |

YOU'RE ALL WRONG!
All of his songs are underrated. Every single last one of them.
Name one song you've heard on mainstream radio. Was the songs played at a reasonable time of day and on a regualar rotation. Name one video they play on M2TVH1MuchMusic on any regular rotation. Name one person you physically know that likes and buys his music (you telling them who he is and how great his music is doesn't count).
After all that I'll go with the rockin'

I have at least 7 or 8 friends who own a Frank Black cd, and at least 3 of them own about 10 or so (including Pixies)...i guess i did tell them how cool he was, but if someone goes out and buys all his albums, then its not like they're humoring me, so i think they count. Afterall...word of mouth is probably about 90% of how music that doesn't get played on the radio spreads... |

Every song is underrated. In an era where we have such godawful musical crap spewed upon us by an out-of-touch music industry, EVERY FRNAK BLACK SONG IS UNDERRATED! However, being forced into choosing, I'd have to go with "Humboldt County Massacre." This is an ultra catchy tune that borders on Punk Rock, and if you sit back and listen to the lyrics, it has the potential to make you feel a bit queasy. (And rightfully so, as it is about the 1856 slaughter of an entire native american tribe at the hands of someodd six goldseeking thugs armed with axes. Powerful somgwriting. Also, if "His Kingly Cave" doesn't rock the top of the charts from now until next February, then I may as well add that to the list.

Humboldt County Massacre
Something about that tune grabs me. Maybe its my affinity for Frank's songs that detail massive distruction.. It needs to be fleshed out with another verse or something and to find its way onto the next album.

"I,ve seen your picture"
I,ve always been a fan of how Frank jars his chords like a broken record, like he does at the end of the song. Oh, and if ya'll didn't know, "two reelers" is about the three stooges. I just figured that out myself. Woop-dee-doo. |

I Don't Want To Hurt You (Every Single Time) This song always seems to cop heaps of criticism for being too cheesy but I find the sentiment in this song quite amusing. |
