I dunno, then it'd be all like, come wish me a happy birthday. And what if nobody came and said anything, then I'd be all crushed. :)
Mind you, with my moderating abilities, I could've added an "OR ELSE" in there. Then I'd get responses. <tenting fingers (not pants) ala Mr. Burns> |

Why does it seem ok to not really do any work on your birthday? I don't think I have ever done less work, but it seems justified so fuck it. |

Heh, well, I'm going to start picking up my socks a little around here, things are getting busy. You may see less of me. :)
I figure if there's one day you should be given off with pay, it's your birthday. If they don't give you it off, then you just take it off at the office. :) |

Carolyn said this: Why didn't you set up your own bday thread last week mr.moderator?
Mike replys with this:
Because that's my job, and him doing it would have been utterly classless. Apologies Dean, but the forum has slipped considerably in my priorities, and that I must rectify.
*The preceeding is what happens when Mike forgets to click on "reply with quote" and has to go back and edit his post. It was also brought to you by the letter "Q". |

I was hardly at home last night. Ran home, grabbed dinner, went to see American Wedding but it was sold out so we bought tickets to the late show, hung out at a friend's place, and went back and saw it at 9:50. Then chatted about the movie's awfulness, various odds-and-ends, and went home and to sleep. Tonight, though.

I found out which Ween song it was in that movie U-Turn. It was that horribly nasty Piss up a Rope. |

Alright alright already, I am about 3/4 of the way through Fiddler and yes I love it. Such a romantic, tragic, fairy tale of a story, I can see why you like it so. Thanks for making me watch it, I didn't cry yet but almost. |

3/4, you should've just finished it. Glad you like it though. It is sort of fairy tale but very real at the same time. I think that maybe someday people will look at something like that and wonder if people REALLY ever did live like that. I'm surprised you cut it off at 3/4, though. What part are you at?

I just couldn't keep my eyes open anymore, it was midnight. I'm gonna start my own commune where people could feel free to break into song and dance at any time, that would be cool. The third daughter just got married to the Russian and all those soldiers are startin to come in. Its fairy tale so far but I have a feelin some shits gonna go down pretty soon here. I still am not sure why I belong there (maybe), but I think you belong there, I could just picture you breaking into song and dance.;) |

That's not true It's never been Now please don't say Those words again.
I just can't sing And I never dance This commune of yours Won't stand a chance!
<slow emotive bridge>
And slowly the wheel of time turns Quickly when passion burns Over its tracks as the soul yearns And circular though we think we've learned.
<back to fast part>
And now you see What you have done You've started me singing Now turn and run
<crescendo throughout> It's not fair It's not right This song is A dreadful sight
But please, Let me sing AAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaagaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.
<applause>
How dare you insinuate I break spontaneously into song and dance!
Anyway, I'm not going to tell you any more about the fiddler, but I'm really happy that you're enjoying it.

Aw Dean I love it, I'm usually so bored at work and you really do make me giggle at least a few times a day, thanks for that.

Well, I needed something a little more thoughtful for the slow, emotive bridge. I spent at least 30 seconds writing that. :)
Sadly, I'm very busy at work all of a sudden. [30 mins later] ... and that's when my boss walked in. At least it proves my point. :) You'll notice that I'm dodging the questions on the birthday song. Who was it by, again? I'll write it on my hand.

Alright, alright, consider it downloaded. If it's good enough for mere "the mere 7" ubu, it's good enough for me.

So I was watching the rest of fiddler yesterday and I put it on and it was over in about 10-15 min. And I was like that's it? I guess I'm used to hollywood violence, I thought the soldiers were going to go in and start some shit. But the more I think about it the more I like the way it ended. You know a closeknit community dealing with day to day things and then they all have to breakup and leave, it was a better ending that way.
And sure, sure, listen to mere then. |

Yeah, exactly, the point wouldn't have been made if they'd all just been killed. You have a community used to a simple, peaceful, pastoral way of life, the life that their fathers and fathers' fathers lived (tradition), and within the village they struggle to maintain the tradition as the rest of the world is changing, and finally the external pressure cracks them apart, and they're off to live totally isolated, different lives, apart from their friends, neighbours, and the people they've lived with forever. You know, all this outside force for change and rebellion just destroys their 'family', and they cope as well as they can, but there's no winning. They can't hold on to what they value (or their values if you prefer) in the face of what's going on in the world. And I think that's really sad that they try so hard to fight for it, they bend so far to hold on to what they can, and the weight of the outside world finally snaps them in splinters.
If the Russians had just come in and killed them, it'd be like, "OK, now they're dead for no reason."
