Does anyone here listen to Doug Sahm? I've heard Frank mention him in an interview or two and was thinking about picking up one of his albums. Any suggestions?

I am listening to Doug Sahm as I write this! Been cleaning house to it all morning. I have "The Best of Doug Sahm & The Sir Douglas Quintet 1968-1975." (And yes, it has Sunday Sunny Mill Valley Groove Day on it.) I really enjoy it and want to get more Doug Sahm. He's an unusual combination of Tex-Mex barroom blues & crunchy granola hippie sentiment. Don't let this scare you--he was such a charming man that he pulls it off very well. Anyway, this is a very fun and eclectic disc and I highly recommend it. Plus, it'll definitely up your consumption of beer & Mexican food and that can only be a good thing.

I recommend "Best of the Atlantic Sessions". Its very eclectic and really shows how talented he really is. Includes a Dylan song with Bob on vocal. I highly recommend it. If you like the tex-mex, the Texas Tornadoes was a band Sahm was a part of in his later years with Flaco Jimenez, Freddy Fender, and Augie Meyers. Great stuff if you like the Tex Mex. I would recommend Best of as a primer.

My wife and father in law went to his funeral when we lived in texas. Her dad was a big fan of his music.
