Wow, you guys definately dislike some of, imo, Franks best tracks. "Skeleton Man" and "You're such a wire" are both classics that I play at very high volumes while blasting through traffic. How anyone can deny that super-sonic chord strum at the beginning of You're such a wire is beyond me.
The only FB track I'm iffy on is "I've been suffering". |

Thank you Apostle . I agree with you. Maybe I am the only one here, but I think that "Can I get a Witness" is also one of FB's best songs ever . |

Hey, maybe it's filler, maybe not, but I'm sure there are a couple o' Frank songs out there you don't like as much as others; probably some you don't like and I do. It's more a matter of opinion; I couldn't convince you that say, Smashing Pumpkins was a good band if you didn't like them to begin with, or if I didn't provide you with any more material with which to make your decision. By the way, I'm not trying to be rude.

Again, Jesus was Right, the only song I can say was terrible, the others that people list ,deserve more listening (Can I get a Witness, fucking great)! The guitar solo is good in J W R, but it dos'nt make up for the terrible lyrics! Again Frank singing about stateboarding!? Reeks of filler ( Hate Me is a hundred times better and should have taken its place instead of a B-side on the eariler album). It's not even amusing in a jokey kind of way, leave it to NOFX.

Yes, Kotvana, Suffering is amazing, along with Steak n Sabre and Solid Gold. All the S songs basically. Unfortunately the scales rock back and forth due some not so great pieces. Do You Feel Bad About It makes me cringe!

I think that's a blueprint for perfect power pop! It also makes a great lead- in to Weezer's 'Buddy Holly' on a mix disc... |

I didn't like BLD at first; in fact I was thoroughly dissapointed. But I've since decided that I was expecting something else of it. Once I really got down and listened to it without expecting anything one way or the other from it, I got into it. Now I like the album. I still don't like how I Will Run After You turned out though. When he goes into the choir boy voice, it's not high enough. On SSMVGD he really hits some high octaves. When I listen to BLD he doesn't sing the choir boy part high enough. Jet Black River and 21 Reasons are nice songs. ENd of Miles and Chip Away Boy and 1826 and Cold Heart of Stone; I like them quite a bit.

To Steak n Sabre (great name BTW) - Ever since the Pixies, I have gotten the most pleasure out of Frank's ability to play with language. He can turn a phrase on a dime and give you back 2 shiny nickels in change! This is the man who rhymes sarong with kampong, for God's sakes! The lyrics of the chorus to Do You Feel Bad About It just sounds so achingly simplistic (not simple, there's a difference) It just sounds lazy to me.

THIS IS IT! You ever read Ivanov by Mr. Chekhov? Very funny play! And that Vershinin from Three Sisters...what a kook!
Anyhow, I love Do You Feel Bad About It, Frequency. I can see where you don't though...it is simplistic and his wordpuzzle isnt quite the norm, but I like its dichotomy of happy poppiness in tune and salty woundedness in lyric...kinda like the craziness of Debaser. Fun and psychotic all at once. As for Solid Gold...may just be my favorite Black song...beyond anger...hopeless despair! And his performance on that song....ahh! Makes me wanna drink some whiskey and pull out all my bad memories!

boy, it just seems to show what we all already know-different stokes...fer different fokes -seeing people name FB&C songs that rub them the wrong way either confirms to oneself the scathing of a song that just seems to irritate or disbelief that someone can't stand a song you seem to get off on... BEST of the five least(from this thread so far): 1:the man who was too loud 2:dancewar 3:i've been sufferin' 4:blast off (..city hall all are freaks-classic) 5:robert onion
there are songs within this thread that on any given day i would put on top of the ones listed -sometimes even 'skeleton man' and definitely 'fields of marigold' or fer sure 'punk rock city' or...
frank has executed some lame ballads in the past (I DON'T WANT TO HURT YOU..)but he's pretty sharp these days -black letter days grows on you big time -why someone that didnt like that disc is even near this forum i can't imagine. 'TRUE BLUE' is simple sublime beauty. ...here i am making a best of and i'm supposed to give my least faves -just can't do it i guess -'farewell bend' is an absolute classic. what's funny is that i like that song 100% but i am fairly sure it's mainly the lyrics i like.. yet i do like 'jesus was right' and really don't care what he's sayin' ...i guess that's my point.

Freq, I can see where you are coming from. However, I think thats one of my favorite songs based on the music. I really dig the drums and the gtr tones. As for the lyrics, I think they compare to anything on the first few Beatles records, is that so bad???:)

All those who think "Do You Feel Bad About It" is weak: Yah'll crazy. That's one of the only songs on the Catholics self-titled that I can rock out to. 2 minutes of rock 'n' roll at it's best. |
