Inspired by Ramona's challenge (our brains got a lot of exercise on that), I'm curious if it is as easy, much harder, etc to choose the 5 least favorites. I hope I do not inspire hatred and vitriol with this, but surely after 200 plus songs, there's gotta be about 5 that aren't quite up to snuff. You don't even have to hate them, just not like them as much.

I guess for me (and much like the 5 favorites, this list is fluid and subject to change at any second):

The Adventure and the Resolution
Do You Feel Bad About It?
Skeleton Man
Village of the Sun
You Never Heard About Me

I can now say, without hyperbole, that that was A MILLION TIMES HARDER!!!!!!

I like that lemur, I lick it. That's velvety!

Frank wrote one bad song IMO: You're Such A Wire

For the other 4, I'd say:
Smoke Up
Pure Denizen Of The Citizens Band
Tiny Heart
85 Weeks

I've often used Skeleton Man as an intro song for FB for people, or as a song I'd like them to hear, am I mistaken in thinking this is a fan favorite? Or is it just coincidence that 3 or 4 people don't rate it.

The first two who picked Skeleton Man also didn't seem to like TAaTR or Robert Onion, so I dunno. ;-)

I generally play something off of FB&theCs and/or DitS as intros.

Brackish Boy - Seems like a throwaway compared to the other songs on "Frank Black". I've skipped over it many times.

You Ain't Me - annoying lyrics, generic chord progressions.

Do You Feel Bad About It - ditto (though to a lesser extent).

Those are really the only solo songs that I find "annoying". I suppose 666 and The Scene can pick up the slack.

Hmm...5 least favorite...hard in a different way from 5 most favorite...

Tossed <-- Though it's kinda like the difference between Velvety Instrumental and Velvety, one day I'd like to hear the version with lyrics...
Punk Rock City
I Don't Want to Hurt You (Every Single Time)
Six Sixty Six
Can I Get A Witness

...though none of these are *bad* imo, just not as good, Tossed is probably the best of the bunch...and like that other thread, this list is subject to change with ease.

OHHH my heart sinks! What a terrible decision...especially reading that so many people dont like one of my favorite Frank songs: SOLID GOLD

But pick as I must, the five would be:

1) Everytime I Go Around Here (I know it's a fav, just don't care for it)
2) I'll Be Blue (eeeuuucckkkkk!)
3) Fields of Marigold (don't get it)
4) The Creature Crawling (silly...dumb actually)
5) The Scene (filler if I ever heard)

Good God in heaven that was difficult. This post took wAY too long!

I'm not a huge fan of 'The Scene' either, and I wouldn't call it filler, but it surprises me how much people like it sometimes. Anyway...least favorites:

Fazer Eyes
Cult of Ray (The song)
I Switched You
Mosh, Don't Pass the Guy
His Kingly Cave - There's something about the new version I don't like

Dear Vilainde...this topic has me torn asunder! Thank you for loving Solid Gold ...however I feel terrible for disliking other people's favorites! I dont hate Fields Of Marigold...it's just boring to me. And Stuart...I sense some hostility from you too...I'm sorry about disliking The Scene (on the contrary, I find Devils Workshop a MUCH stronger album than Black Letter Days). This is a terrible topic! Not fun! Not fun!

Gods be damned, how can anyone dislike The Changing of the Guards and his Kingly Cave?

I mean, yeah OK, for each his own, but just listen to the lyrics "Gentlemen, he said I don't need your organization, I've shined your shoes,I moved your Mountains, but Eden is burning. Either brace yourself for elimination or else your hearts must have the courage for the Changing of the Guards?"
I mean, that's fucking poetry, man. And that brilliant guitar riff? And the fast chord changes?

Also 'His Kingly Cave' - a song about Death and Graceland, with guitar by Joey Santiego. How can you possibly object to that?

I can see my tastes run almost 180 degrees opposite of most of you...
Least Faves:
Headache, the bg vocals just rub me the wrong way. I like Doog's better actually.
I Don't Want To Hurt You, Too mushy
Space Is Gonna Do Me Good, kind of cheezy keyboards, not exactly a killer riff either.
Can I Get a Witness, trying to be Dylan a little too much for me.
Are You Headed My Way?, I enjoyed seeing this live, and it's great fun around the campfire, on disc it only works after a few drinks.

Steak, you're right about Space Is Gonna Do Me Good, I always hated the keyboards on this song. And I don't particularly like Are You Headed My Way either (the only bad song on DW IMO).

I really like all the songs everybodies mentioned. The only song that pisses me off is Jesus was Right, Frank singing about skateboarding!!!? uhhhhh! The sentiment is nice though.

Bazza, I really like Punk Rock City?

Personally I love everytrhing on "Frank Black and the Catholics"
and also many other songs you have classified as least favorites
("You are such a wire" is brilliant !).
As for me I do NOT like:
1. The Black Rider (2nd version)
2. 1826
3. Sleep
4. Velvety
5. 50% of Pixies music

My knowledge of Frank spans only a few albums. The others I don't have, so I don't know the songs.

1.) 1826. I like the lyrics, but the sound of the song is annoying as fuck.
2.) Southbound Bevy. Again, the lyrics aren't bad, but the vocals are too high-pitched from: "I used to think about the world..." on.
3.) Cold Heart of Stone. I don't know exactly why.
4.) Suffering. Too growly; Frank is not that aggressive a person.
5.) The Hostess With the Mostess. Seems like filler.

Of course, I don't hate these songs in the same way as I hate that guy who comes running out in his underwear and dancing in the Joe Boxer commercials; I could actually listen to any or all of these songs and enjoy them. But they don't seem up to par with their respective albums. I don't want to kill these songs as I do that annoying fucker in the commercials.

You're Such a Wire is ugly. I HATE it.

Right now, the song most often cited is Punk Rock City, and then come 1826, Can I Get A Witness, I Don't Want To Hurt You, 666, Skeleton Man, Black Rider and Dance War.

Frank didn't write "Changing of the Guards," so I don't see how the brilliance of the lyrics is part of the issue. I just think it's a boring song that goes on far too long.
