"I'll try anything once. Twice if I like it!" I live my life by this rule and it only brings fun and adventure - and alot of weird sexual experiences. |

my personal motto is so simplistic as to be almost retarded, but it seems to work for me. it is:
BE GOOD
be good. be good to others, be good to yourself.
Divine: "Kill everyone now! Condone first-degree murder! Advocate cannibalism! Eat shit! Flith is my politics, filth is my life! Take whatever you like!" |

'you can try the best you can, the best you can is good enough' is a nice one. though with radiohead you can never be sure about the amount of cynicisim in a line. i think his partner said it to thom, and i'm sure she was being sincere.

That's a great line to complete the 'treat others as you'd like to be treated' line. Because it's so much easier and more tempting to do out of spite/revenge than to forgive and continue treating well. And it goes along with the whole 'bad parents raise bad children' thing, which thankfully isn't ALWAYS true but it certainly happens. |

I say that alot of the time people don't even realize that they treat others like they've been treated, its the whole lack of self awareness thing. People develop coping strategies (especially from your family of origin) and then they continue using them right into their adult life. The lack of self awareness comes when they don't even realize they are using them. What they don't realize sometimes is that these strategies cannot work forever, especially in your adult life. So the choice is to stay ignorant of yourself (and probably drive those around you away) or to try to figure yourself out. Thats my mom's whole point for my earlier quote. You can't get across the river if you don't walk through it. |

Yeah, people who really have no concept of who they are or how they treat others seem to exist in droves. Honest to goodness droves.
I suppose my take on the river analogy would be that there are a dozen ways to cross the river of life, but you only get your feet wet if you wade right in. Not really the same point, I suppose, but sort of the same idea of being absorbed by (and absorbing) life and making the most of it. I suppose if you're taking life in, then you can't be entirely lacking self-awareness. There. I tied it in. |

Some days just commuting on public trans makes me want to cry. The lack of COMMON COURTESY (d'oh!) is just so sad, people push, walk in front of you, and act generally retarded as to the fact that we all have places to be and things to do that are important. Everyone has a story that is just as crucial to them as yours is to you. So basically I agree with you both, Carolyanna and COR! |

If only the whole world was more curious... :)
Yeah, the whole 'fight to get on the train' thing is pretty sad, especially since there's usually another one in a minute or two. |

Aye..people are unaware.
It's sorta like telling someone they've been brainwashed. They'll say 'no i haven't'. Well, duh. |

I find it beyond frustrating because the vast majority of my family members have this problem and I can either a)agree with them and their ideas or just be quiet or else risk an all out war which you cannot win, its impossible (unnecessary stress/drama) or b) tell them to hit the road because I'm tired of pretending, which ends up feeling like selling out because there is no way to be myself around them.

I have a colorful family of origin, to say the least, and what it really comes down to for me is how much time I have to spend with certain folks. If I limit my exposure, I can just shut up and be tolerant for a while, but it certain cases, I've had to revamp entire relationships. This has worked out pretty well, but it's an exhausting process. Oh, and ever since I quit smoking, everyone has had to deal with the "real me" whether they like it or not. If I don't get to sublimate with a smoke, then everyone else is gonna suffer, too.
Blah, blah, blah. Did the above make any sense? |

Everytime someone says haha, I think "charade you are". Its a pink floyd tune called Pigs, you should check it out.
And mere that did make sense, my parents just happen to be getting divorced now and its not pretty, so I'm in the middle of a tug of war. I liked it better when I didn't see or hear from them so much or I think they cancelled eachother out sometimes. They're more annoying on their own. |
