Devastating is the only word I can use. We have been deprived of Frank for so long, I booked my tix, I was so excited I cried, and then the Corner Hotel in Melbourne called me to say Frank had cancelled his Australian tour.
What gives Frank? I hope it didn't have anything to do with the distance you would have to travel to Australia. I'm sure you'll get more posts like this as the word slowly leeks out.
I still love you Frank, but I'm mighty pissed.

from the corner hotel web site:
Due to circumstances beyond his control, Frank Black must regretfully cancel his upcoming show at the Corner Hotel. At this stage the Frontier Touring Company and Frank Black hope to reschedule his Australian tour for February 2004 - and this time rumour has it Frank will be bringing The Catholics with him. Please note that tickets for his August tour will not be valid for the 2004 tour. |

This is Frank's touring company in Australia. I'm going to email them suggesting that they try and get The Man to come to Australia asap :) Maybe if enough of us email em that we desperately need to see him in concert they'll comply?

Wow, that's really sad... I do regret that on your behalf. You may have lost Frank, but you've gained the Catholics if that's any consolation. |

Sorry to hear it guys, but hey...maybe this means a more complete Catholics tour in 2004? That's good news, I would say.

fuck, if i'd bought those non-refundable non transferable flights to Sydney i was seriously considering i'd definitely be breaking shit.
call me pessimistic but i seriously can't see him coming back next Feb with a full band. The still low value of the $AUS would make it financially unviable i'd say. |

optimistically though....if syd sold out and Melb was bound too, they should be able to justify playing 2 shows in both of those capitals and prob one maybe in Brisbane, which would probably make it worth the trip . anyone know what the annadale holds? i know the corner holds about 500 |

Can't believe he aint coming, pretty peeved off. Been waiting to see him for 10 years know. I agree with you Brackish Heart im not convinced he will be coming back in Feb as well. Lets just hope it can happen. Does anyone know the reason for the cancelation of the shows? The Corner Hotel officially holds 750 people. |

I don't know about a Feb visit but I am sure he will come your way before too long. And if anything it will be a more substantial tour than originally planned. Frank has had some cancellations here in the states in recent years and he has made them up, if I'm not mistaken. I know it's different in terms of distance, etc, but he takes his "patrons" (as he has been known to call us) very seriously and can only be highly aware that so many of his best fans are disappointed that he can't make it to Australia right now. He'll make it up to you. |

I am very glad he cancelled.
If he had come in August I would have not been able to see him. Hopefully he will play in Brisbane now in Feb, and even if he doesnt, by then I will be able to afford to fly to syd or melb to see him. I cant afford to do this in august.
Also, I would prefer to see him with the Catholics.
So this is great news.
Playing in 2 cities is not an "Australian" tour anyway.

well, hopefully the fact that the Annandale show sold out in like 3 days should make his tour managers realise that there is a rock solid fan base here :)

I AM one of those suckers who already bought non-refundable air tkts, etc. to see Frank in Sydney, out of pocket to the tune of $860+ for nothing... not happy!!
I just don't understand how things could get so disorganised, I could have bought FB's entire back catalogue 3 or 4 times over with those $$
thanks guys, what a f*ing waste... |

Absolutely disasterous. I only found out today by visiting this site (unlike the Corner in Melbourne the Annandale seem not to have made any efforts to alert punters of Frank's cancellation) and I'm pissed off. I couldn't believe that I was going to see Frank Black in the flesh at such a cosy venue. Here's hoping the rescheduling stuff is right. He may even do a show in Brisbane Sheamus - feeling a bit neglected up there? |

Yes, a tad neglected after hearing that Frank was only going to play in 2 cities in Australia after not being here for nearly 10 years. It was a bit of a kick in the teeth.
Hopefully this will change now. I see no reason why they shouldn't come to Brisbane, and Adelaide for that matter. The show would definately sell out, most probably very quickly. |

I think there has been a minor update to the Frontier Touring Website regarding the Frank Black tour....
"At this stage, The Frontier Touring Company and Frank Black hope to reschedule his Australian tour for February 2004 - and this time rumour has it that Frank will be bringing The Catholics with him! Please note that tickets for his August tour will not be valid for the 2004 tour. Please refund these at your point of purchase and stay tuned for information on a new tour soon."
The last bit highlighted I think is new, and maybe is cause for some guarded optimism regarding Frank returning....

i would love to see him solo as much as with the Catholics. In a way im happy that he cancelled because i could really afford to fly from Perth to melbourne at the time, and had too much work. Then again now im stuck with a return flight to melbourne.
I would have thought if he was coming solo that he would have covered the major cities - i wouldnt think travelling overheads would have been that huge for a man and his guitars/amps. Im sure Frank black solo is going to pull the same amount of people as frank black&Caths in australia - may work out better financially for him to tour here solo? |
