oh yeah, oil isn't any good if it is stored in a plastic bottle. best are the ones in green or brown bottles(don't ask me why) and they really should be rifrigerated from being processed til they are comsumed.

wheat is murder.
I understand you might not want to eat meat because you don't like the taste of it but if you don't because that's animals, what about vegetables? They're living beings as well!!
That said, I've got nothing against vegans. |

Yeah, broccoli has a central nervous system which means it can probably feel pain. I'd eat myself, but I'm not flexible enough.

Ah yes, thanks you Jessie!
Try to get your oil in opaque containers, preferably made of glass. Light destroys the good stuff in oil, so a dark container will keep it better.
If you're getting cold-pressed oils, the plastic issue isn't as bad as it could be, since generally it's the heating of plastic that releases the 'hormones' (something like xeno-estrogen?)
This plant thing is really tired.. What do you think the animals meat comes from eats?
Even if you consider plants as sentient, sensitive creatures, you're still better off eating them directly than from an animal that ate many, many times more.
And the last word on the subject is that there is a surprising amount of plant food that doesn't require any killing - mostly fruit, etc.. Since it's not the plant itself. |

I do know someone who use to (perhaps still does) only eat meat that was found, usually roadkill.
Story has it that he lived near some powerlines in Britain that often supplied him with zapped geese. |

I'm all for veganism honestly. I tried it for awhile, but I can't do it 'cause I love meat and every other food group.
FLOOP, I can make tofu for you that would make you cream.
I love tofu, I love beef, pork, poulty, fish, shellfish, bread... if I am hungry, I'll fuckin' eat it.
I do agree cow's milk is yucky, I'd rather soy.
I wish everyone was vegan. The more vegans the better, but I'm not one.
I can't believe I never saw this topic. I never got that 9ass( shit either...
uh, nevermind, bye
ain't it |

i drink soy - its much better for you; albeit maybe a bit more expensive. also - i dont like the idea that milk has to be 'processed' to make it drinkable (although i do know people who live on farms here who drink milk straight from the cow - yikes!). anybody care to offer an opinion on this - i have heard somebody mention before about phyto-oestrogens being detected in soy milk... it doesnt bother me at all, due to reported minute quantities. anybody any thoughts on GM soy products?

I don't drink any milk products as I am highly lactose intolerant, what pisses me off is when they add lactose into things. At my first day at this job I was running late so I drank a Carnation Instant breakfast, (with soy milk) (are those even good for you?) and they add lactose to it. Try explaining that to your new boss and co-workers (if anyone is lactose intolerant, they'll know what I mean.)
Also, I wanted to ask about hemp seed oil (I'm all about the hemp). I bought some and its pretty expensive, could I have just bought flax instead, would it be just as good? |

Hey Barry - the phyto-estro in soy is actually really good, and helps to even out levels in post-menopausal women. It's not like the stuff you get from plastic, which just mimics estrogen.
GM anything is bad. It's such an insanely huge structure to work with, we have no idea what we're doing really, it's generally hit'n'miss.
Weird about the lactose.. I'd sooner make a nice fruit smoothie..nums..
I'm not sure which is better (hemp/flax oil), but it's relatively marginal from what i understand. I find the pro-hemp folks kinda militant about it, so i'm suspicious. |

I'm not smoking it, I'm eating it. You know instead of butter or even canola, sunflower etc.
But once when I was about 14 I tried smoking catnip, doesn't work. |

While I personally am with Bazza on the GM fence, I wouldn't go so far as to say that GM-anything is bad. We don't know what we're doing very well at the moment, true, but we certainly won't learn anything by stopping altogether. Does more work need to be done prior to consumption? Probably. But if these GM products are able to provide more food from a per unit area basis, who are we to deny the contribution that such advances might make to helping deal with world hunger? Imagine - ultra-huge, dual use banana skins. Now we're talking. |

Imagine the fun you could have if making some fall was a simple as laying out a banana peel. Bananas would be banned in schools! There would be restrictions on minors buying them! Kids would stand outside produce stands trying to get adults to "pull" for them! Havoc would reign. |

GM foods have done *nothing* to help *anyone* but the corporations. While they're spending billions on R&D, people are starving who would do absolutely fine if they had 'regular' seeds.
And let's take a look at this 'golden rice' that Monsanto or whoever came up with.. It's GE's to contain beta-carotene or something...but in order to get your daily RDA of this vitamin from the rice, you'd need to eat like 50 cups of it.
And this is their greatest accomplishment.
All their 'roundup' crops require even *more* pesticide than conventional crops.
It's crap. If they wanna toy with this shit in highly-contained labs, fine, but they're so damn eager to get it on the market we're left without any options..
They've proven many times over they're not trustworth, and GE food is NOT worth the trouble required.
Organic farming, on the other hand, is growing in leaps and bounds, and is becoming quite efficient, producing close to as much produce as conventional crops in many area's.
And with considerably less resource use.
Of course, no corp's gonna profit from a lack of pesticide use... |

Great quote DI, I never thought of that in that way... the line "what goes around...." could be applied to many situations, like a person who doesn't fair well in relationships and will be left alone, or on a grander scale, to corporations who gouge away at the local economy, destroying the little guy, which is ultimately self defeating. If everyone is gone, and there's nothing but you, who will have money to buy from you? |

Dave, I like to buy organic but I find it so damn expensive. I have found that Superstore's Presidents Choice has an organic line and it fairly cheap. Do you have any idea why or if its good? You're Canadian you have Superstore's in Vancouver right? btw, that's actually where I was born |
