How does Frank get love in the 'fork? By mentioning the Pixies. A rather humorous little news piece in www.pitchforkmedia.com today, if only because they seem to take this rumor more seriously than we do. Oh, and apparently Frank is touring with the Catholics, so to those of you reporting these "solo" gigs, you must be blind and/or partially deaf. Didn't you notice Rich, Dave, Scott, et al.?

from Pitchfork

Frank Black Says Pixies Considering Reunion
We're gonna ditch the tagline here and just tell you to go read the lyrics to Caribou again, as more beautiful words have never been written

Ed Howard reports:
On the heels of the reissuing of virtually their entire back catalog, The Pixies, that most upstanding of classic late 80s/early 90s alternative rock bands (who I'm sure need no introduction here) may be just a few baby steps away from a full-fledged reunion. Pixies frontman Frank Black (formerly known as Black Francis, for those who may have needed to ask) recently said in an interview with London radio station XFM that the group has been getting together every once in a while to play informally.

Black isn't 100% sold on the idea; he told the station, "I do dream about the Pixies reunion... It's like those schoolboy dreams when you don't do your homework and you don't study for the test, but I'm at the gig and we're hanging out, but it's an utter failure and I don't know the songs, and hardly anyone turns up for the gig and people walk out. That's what I'm afraid of, that it'd be a big, big failure."

Despite Black's hesitation, he does admit that the Pixies "do get together and have private jams together, but not for public consumption." It's a huge step, considering the well-publicized bad blood between Black and second singer/bassist Kim Deal. It was this tension that originally split up the band in 1993, leaving Deal to form The Breeders with sister Kelley. Black's confirmation that the original line-up of himself, Deal, guitarist Joey Santiago, and drummer David Lovering still play together is a big step toward the band overcoming their past difficulties and reforming for a tour-- or possibly a new album.

In the meantime, however, Pixies fans will have to remain content with Black's current work with his backing band, The Catholics-- and it sounds like they couldn't be busier. Though the band simultaneously released two full-lengths with Frank last August, they've already got another in the can. Titled Show Me Your Tears, the forthcoming album is due out on September 9th. They'll be promoting it with a tour of the UK this autumn. Dates:

09-26 Edinburgh, UK - Liquid Rooms
09-27 Aberdeen, UK - Lemon Tree
09-28 Glasgow, UK - Garage
09-30 Leeds, UK - Cockpit
10-01 Manchester, UK - MDH
10-02 Liverpool, UK - Stanley Theatre
10-03 Dublin, Ireland - Vicar St
10-05 Sheffield, UK - Leadmill
10-06 Birmingham, UK - Academy 2
10-07 Norwich, UK - Waterfront
10-09 Bristol, UK - Fire Station
10-10 Oxford, UK - Zodiac
10-11 Portsmouth, UK - Wedgewood Rooms
10-13 Cambridge, UK - Junction

Pitchfork Media is just a bunch of dumb-asses. And why the Hell does this interview get so popular all of the sudden. He's said the same thing every time a dumb-ass reporter who doesn't know what the hell he's talking about and doesn't know any of Frank's work past Doolittle asks him that question

More realiable, hard hitting new sources pick up on the story of the century: This one is from "MuchMoreMusic", the Canadian VH1 wanna be. It was on their morning scrolling news thing, which is displayed along the bottom of the screen as they play non-offensive, easy-ish listening from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Although they did play Elvis Costello this morning, so they can't be all bad...

from MuchMoreMusic:

Pixies frontman Frank Black hasn't ruled out the possibility of a reunion tour and reveals the band still gets together to jam

Seems like throwing in a "former" before "Pixies" would make this seem a little more accurate. And yes, I wrote this all out at home so I could type it here word for word. I even had to sit through the whole loop of news stories twice to catch it again to get it right. I'm an FB nerd, alright?

Of course.... my mates sent me an email saying that the Pixies were playing a one off next Saturday in Blackpool, England (as if thats where they would play for a one off gig). They must have butchered a review of some kind, and added some of their own words (Franks quotes seemed remarkably British) in order to trick me... safe to say I didn't believe it, just like I don't reckon the Pixies will reform in the near future.
