OK Dave, YOU go follow Hunter S. Thompsen, he is a completely irrelivent, drug-addled maniac. He owns more guns than 99.9999% of all americans. He sits around in a self-confessed drug induced haze, occasionally shooting off small arms fire or exploding grenades or other pyrotechnics. He has no brain left.
The proof that he has no insight whatsoever into American politics is the fact that his first prediction was wrong. America overwhelmingly supported Bush in the 2002 elections. The first time in modern history that a 1st term Pres picked up seats in a midterm. He will continue being wrong when 2004 rolls around.
For anyone interested inthe truth, Iraqi's used Russian, French and German weaponry against the Coalition forces. Mostly Russian infantry equipment. French missiles and missile material has been found all over Iraq. There little airforce had MIG's.
Dont just blame the US for the American Indian story. They were being hunted and exploited by Euro "explorers" long before 1776. Not to mention Europes slave history and exploitation of the masses by cruel or insane monarchies and dictatorships.
The rest is stretched and unsubstantiated logic and twisted facts. But, whatever, the majority are more interested in protecting their dying ideaology over dealing with reality. The #'s who buy the type of junk from the left that has been parrotted on this thread are getting fewer and fewer. |

I’ll agree that the Europeans were the first to screw over the natives, right off the start when they called them Indians because the dimwits thought they were in India. |

Well sad but true but that's how people in Europe see the US administration at the moment. Not the american people just the goverment.Bush played his cards so badly that a war pimp like Chirac passed for a peacemaker. And that happened not for any communist or anti-american propaganda(french traditionally are pro-us)but for the simple fact that a bunch of ignorant and arrogant Yankees that guide the bigest war machine in history started a war without even considering the UN or the voice of their own people. They first promised evidence of Saddam's arsenal, then they made it up(Blur knows something about it)and when they failed to convince the UN they started to buy the votes of never-heard-before african countries and when even that didn't work to get the moral majority what did they do?They started the war anyway saying that they'll explain later...Now what has politics to do with a behaviour like that?Giving away Iraq's resources to friends and boycoting african countries that won't use MonSanto's trademark seeds doesn't help at all too...

Well that always wins an argument with me. Attack the person, not their ideas.
Sometimes I do find Thompson (correct spelling) grating, but "he has no brain left" is pretty vicious to say, considering that he still manages to put together lyrical, (albeit angry) sentences together in a compelling (even if you disagree with him) readable manner. Not too mahy people with "no brain left" are capable of that (remember those horrific Aerosmith concerts in the late 80s). Dallas, I confess to being rather left leaning myself (which I keep in check with my growing libertarianism), but your posts have been more about name calling, sweeping generalizations ("The left is full of hate... period." -- no room for debate as far as you're concerned), all the things you accuse the left of being. And it also seems like you're arguing for the sake of argument, because its clear that you haven't (and aren't going to) change any minds, nor do you seem to be interested in having anything but the last word.
I enjoy a good debate, but what seems to be happening here is a group of otherwise intelligent people refusing to agree to disagree -- and this disentragration into name calling is the smoking gun on that accusation.
"Can't we all just get along?"
As for "lack of diversity of thought" charge made by others, as a midwestern Amerikan, I'll disagree. Political thought in America has always been quite diverse, and America is on its swing to the right currently. both sides have always accused the other of controlling (pick one: the media, univerrsities, corporations, the general zeitgeist, etc.). I do think that there is a current danger with corporate control of the national agenda, but I'm also hopeful that, as with any power, as history shows, that will eventually crumble. I'm a big believer in "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely." So you didnt' have to get out the smelling salts when news headlines blasted that the leadership of both the left and the right turn out to be corrupt at various points in time.
I guess the reason I tend to lean left, and not conservatively, is that conservative, by the very meaning of the word itself, is careful. It stands for maintaining the status quo, and my experience has been that maintaining the status quo, whether socially, economically, or even in the corporate world, just isn't good for people in general. People who think conservatively, by and large, are secure in "tried and true" methods. (That's my generous take on the right). Both have valid points to make, so name calling reallly doesn't solve problems.

True, the Europeans did alot of damage to the Native Americans, particulary the Spanish and Portuguese settlers. However it was in fact the US Government that went for genocide by slaughtering practically the whole population of Native Americans in the 19th Century. Try reading Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, very good book on the Natives struggles against the US Government. This is where your own president parped up with the infamous phrase 'The only good Indian is a dead Indian.' Ive just checked the internet to find that this mans portrait belongs on the $20 note.... deary me, thats disgraceful, can you imagine the uproar is Hitlers face appeared on the German Mark?? Well, this is pretty much as bad.
'The rest is stretched over unsubstantiated logic and twisted facts....' Really... what just like the invasion of Iraq this year?? And you criticise people for not dealing with reality.... hmmm!

I see this thread is a little old....
Just wanted to give the heads up on my new site.
Respond. Ignore. Shake fist wildly and grunt a lot while living in Moore's fabricated fantasy world of depravity. All the same to me.
It's got information from David Hardy in it as well as many other sources that open the movie scene by scene to expose every distortion and dishonesty.
Enjoy...

I think that the points he made were interesting despite whatever stretches and lies he used to convey his message, but that doesn't excuse it. |

I wish he'd clean it up, too. I was a huge fan (I dig a lot of his politics in spite of me also being an NRA member), but he's stretched my "suspension of disbelief" a little too far. I still have all those TV Nation episodes I taped years ago-- great stuff. |

Maybe some of the stuff he said in Bowling was stretched, but he did make some good points about the US, you cannot deny that!

I don't mean to be snide at all here, but I wonder how many people there are who make decisions on individual issues and don't blanket with terms like "liberal" or "conservative". |

Heh... yeah, I know, I hate being branded. There's one golden rule: there is no golden rule. What ideology or theory or method or whatever works in this case won't work in the next, or in all of them. Sometimes we have to think on our own instead of trying to apply some sort of rule to be followed.
