Canada Day at the Maple in Convent Garden London kicks serious ass... sadly I had to work the bar but the entire street was packed and the vibe was excellent.

I cannot even begin to comprehend the brilliance of that post. It's like stream on conscious in fast forward, and it all penetrates past the part of your brain where you try to sort things into neat piles and right to the spot where you just understand. "Story of my life". Indeed, my friend, indeed. |

Unfortunately I missed Brian Wilson's performance. How familiar are you with his performances in the most recent years? I wonder if his voice is better now than it has been...I have "Pet Sounds Live" and it's kinda depressing the way his voice is. Ahhh, poor Brian. I'd still give my left leg to see the SMiLE Tour.

Yeah, I saw him in '00, '01, '02, and last month. His singing has definitely improved. It was quite good at the '02 show I saw. Still, often during harmonies his voice is the only one out of tune. Last month his singing was pretty poor, but someone in his band said that they had only rehearsed once or twice, had flown in late, had gotten up early and that's why Brian wasn't in good form. He had to receive an honorary degree from Northeastern University earlier in the day. Last night's vocals weren't perfect, but sounder damn good. SMiLE tour, yeah! |

Sounds promising. Saw him last month? Did he do SMiLE material?

No. He did a free outdoor show and did some cool lesser-known songs like "Sail on Sailor," "Marcella," "Good Timin'," and a few others, but mostly it was a hits show for the generic non-paying audience. He's done "Heroes & Villains" (with "cantina" section), "Surf's Up" and "Our Prayer" on a few tours. Great, great, and great. Last year he also did "You're Welcome" and a "Wonderful"/"Cabinessence" medley. Can't wait to see what he adds next year. "Do You Like Worms" and "Wind Chimes," certainly. "Vege-tables." "Fire"? "Look"? "He Gives Speeches"? Don't know... |

Did this happen to be the Boston show? I was considering going, but the 6 hour drive was not very enticing. I would love to see "Worms." It's definitely one of my favorites off of SMiLE. Child is the Father of the Man and He Gives Speeches would be great too.

Yes, all the Brian shows I've seen were in or around Boston. You didn't miss too much by not seeing this year's show. And yah, "Child" done properly would be excellent. |
