I nominate the following
1. Sanford and Son 2. Hawaii Five-0 3. Fat Albert 4. Ren and Stimpy 5. Love Boat 6. Barney Miller 7. Night Court 8. Good Times 9. The Jefferson's 10. Speed Racer (Both The American AND Japanese Version)
If you've never heard or read the translation for the Japanese Speed Racer theme, it's a beaut!

Japanese Theme Song
(Even wind shivers at the hair pin curves, young life go, go, go) (White body Mach machine, pride and courage) (If it starts running, won't get behind)
(Mach go, go! (Mach go, go!) (Mach go, go, go!)
(Step on the accelerator till earth's end, young power go, go, go) (Number five Mach machine, everyone watch its power) (Chest is burning with energy) (Let's go good people's highway)
(Mach go, go! (Mach go, go!) (Mach go, go, go!)
SOMETIMES YOU'VE GOT TO TAKE IT EASY (The ending song (English translation)
Let's go! Sometimes you've got to take it easy, Speed We'll leave the city behind, the crows go "caw" Falling back, pulling ahead We're tail to nose Nose to tail Now some busy crows on the way home have passed us by Ah don't let it get you down Why not go for a stroll, Speed Trixie, Spritle, Chim Chim, Speed
Let's go! Sometimes you've got to let your cares go, Speed We're on a country road, the pigs go "oink" Falling back, pulling ahead We're tail to nose Nose to tail Now some hungry little piggies have passed us by Ah don't let it get you down Why not go on a date, Speed Trixie, Spritle, Chim Chim, Speed
Let's go! Sometimes you've got to take it slow, Speed We're at the seaside, the whales go "whoosh" Falling back, pulling ahead We're tail to nose Nose to tail Now a newborn whale has passed us by Ah don't let it get you down Why not stay for tea, Speed Trixie, Spritle, Chim Chim, Speed

Thanks for starting this thread, swimmer. Hawaii 5-0 is definitely a good one. And those Speed Racer translations are fantastic. I reiterate though, Rockford Files. Rockford Files, boy! |

Yeah, I thought of about 10 more after I wrote it.
Rockfird Files definitely - wee-doo doodle doo doo weedle-eedle-ee-dee-do
Early synth magic, and then that harmonica!
I guess those songs were so cool cuz they had to grab people's attention and hold them through the opening credits, so they packed as much cool shit in as possible in 60 seconds.

Well done, transcribing that melody in words. TV theme songs were of course de-prioritized several years ago by networks that wanted to dive right into the next show before people could change the channel. Occasionally, you hear a decent new one though. |

Definitely a good one. Years ago, I was working next to a shopping center and there was a travelling show that had large snakes on exhibit and they played the theme to the Rockford Files non-stop for at least four hours. At least I still can enjoy it these days after that.
I'm going with cartoon theme songs:
Underdog Superchicken

Yes! James Garner. Stills. Slice of life. And Underdog... "When in our world the headlines read our closest hearts are filled with greed and rob and steal from those who need, who comes to help in blazing speed? It's Underdog. Underdog! Underdog. Underdog! Speed of lightning, roar of thunder..." Forgot the rest. "Fighting all who rob and plunder..." |
