Themes are great, and I wonder if he's created any albums with them.

I have a request...couldn't we hold off on these topics till the album is ACTUALLY RELEASED? It's bad enough people are downloading that we're already analyzing it. |

For curiosity's sake, why is it bad we are downloading it? |

I think the title or subject of this topic is fairly clear. If you don't want to discuss song meanings from the new album, don't read this topic. |

IMO, it's not. Downloading and talking about song meanings and discussing the album before its official release simply creates more of a buzz which creates more sales. I think it's VERY safe to assume that everyone here who downloads the album will be buying a copy, and probably more than one.
If you don't wanna see any spoilers, don't click on the thread and you can still behold your suspense in Sept.
But I know were I to read this thread and find out the meaning behind a piece of a song like Everything Is New, I would want the album that much more as Im a huge Hank Williams Sr. fan.
Just my 2 cents................... |

Let's see, discussing Frank Black on a Frank Black forum...are you assuming that there are people here who are NOT going to be getting the album? Therefore, how can this create more buzz and create more sales? The album is not officially released. Therefore, one should pretend it does not exist, and therefore one should not open topics like this until it physically exists, yes? It ruins the release of the album...what's going to be special about the release? Nothing, because we will have already taken it apart and analyzed it 3 months before it hits the shelf, ruining possible conversation for those (moral) people who chose to wait for the release. |

Jim, I understand what you're saying. If that's how you feel, that's great. But that fact remains that you can choose not to read this thread, or any thread that pertains to the new record. I've downloaded the album and listend to it many, many times per day. I discuss the record with others who have heard it. When it comes out, I will buy it. The only person I could possibly be "hurting" is myself, and to certain extent I agree with you, the release will be much less special for me. I did the same thing with BLD and DW, and all these months later I really don't feel like I made a mistake. Again, feel free to wait and build anticipation, but why even participate in a thread you don't agree with? It's like some censor monger going to a porn video store or something. If you don't like it, don't go in. |

Bingo...........I did the same with BLD and DW as well and Im SO glad that I did. Those albums were a godsend to have early. And I still ended up buying copies for myself, copies for friends.
Talking about Frank Black's new album on a Frank Black forum won't work to create some kind of a buzz? Dude, do you think that everyone that reads these messages posts here as well? Do you think that the talk on this board doesn't "spill over" to other places as well? Don't you think that's why they send promos out? Do you really think that, for an artist like FB, sending promos out is gonna equal some kind of major magazine support or radio play ......LOL......dude, artists like FB are benefitted by the "talk"........period.......that IS their promotion. I mean, I don't really think that Rolling Stone and Spin are gonna be scrambling to write in-depth reviews of the new record and creating a buzz about it early, so it's up to the fans to do so. No, rather, some bonehead is gonna listen to it once, decide that it's subpar and give it a bullshit review just like they did with BLD and DW. I mean, we can hope that that won't happen, but chances are that it's likely. Noone will create a buzz about FB like FB's die-hard fans and I just don't see that talking about an album that DOES EXIST and acting like it DOESN'T EXIST just cuz it's not on a store shelf yet is a bad thing?????
You folks that wanna be surprised and have the packaging and the artwork and all of that good stuff on the day it hits the shelves...more power to ya. I got it early, I don't regret getting it early and for you folks that don't want to see the spoilers, just don't click on the threads. Just don't act like we're doing something "bad" cuz we downloaded a promo copy early. I'll say it til Im blue in the face......people whom are not already into FB are not going out and looking to download this album. It's the fans, the people who scoop up every FB record that comes out, those are the ones that about orgasmed on themselves when the promos came out and the mp3s got ripped and those are the ones that are gonna be his "promotional machine" so to speak and are gonna create the buzz. Im glad to see that people are downloading and talking about the record, cuz sadly enough, a lot of those promos are just gonna land in the cut-out bin or get played once and tossed aside, rendering their usefullness void. FB is more of a grass roots artist. The buzz is created from within and the die hard fans are generally hell-bent and determined to spread the "good news"...................... |

Good, Speedy M,
El Capitan Barto, relax. Go move some threads around, that'll give you something to do till the album OFFICIALLY comes out. |

I'm totally agree with El Barto :
"I have a request...couldn't we hold off on these topics till the album is ACTUALLY RELEASED? It's bad enough people are downloading that we're already analyzing it".
If you want to chat about this unrealisead album, do it away, on another site, but not on the Frank Black FANS site.
I understand that fans try to find bootlegs (lives, radio takes...), rare tracks, but not an unrealised album.
Politically correct my ass, this is just a question of respect of an artist, if you don't understand that... We support Frank Black, we must respect his work.
I've just pre-order Show me your tears on Amazon, i read interviews, i try to imagine, get some details step by step, that's exiting. And in september, i'm sure i'm gonna be very surprised, one more time, to hear the differents ways FB takes, and then, maybe, i will talk about it. I don't want (and don't need) to know too much.
I know perfectly well that this mail is vain, this is not going to change your opinion, and i'm sure that a MAJORITY of the people who download every songs of an album are not going to buy it. This is a reality.

I would also like to point out, completely aside from the whole downloading issue, that I have already heard at least eight of these songs live, on the Frank-sanctioned HearItAgain.net releases, and on radio shows. I don't see the problem with discussing these songs--Frank's been putting them out there for people to hear for months. Where am I supposed to go to talk about them? The Linkin Park fansite? It is my understanding that this thread is a place to the discuss of meanings of songs. There is already another thread devoted to the ethics of downloading to Show Me Your Tears and I wish that discussion could just stay there. |

Good point.
Can anyone else hear Shane MacGowan singing "When Will Happiness Find Me Again?" or "Manitoba"? Those songs take a trip to that sad, drunken Pogues place for me.
EDIT: The "Good point" comment was a response to franktaper, not ramona. Geez, that makes me look like a total bitch. Sorry! |

OK, how about a happy compromise. How about you guys mull over how much you love song X...as much as you want, whatever. That's fine, yes he's played them live, etc. But can't we save topics such as this for the album release? Hear me out, you're discriminating against those who don't have the album, and when the album actually comes out and we try to decipher it, it'll already be old news. Eh? EH?!

Discriminating? Alrighty. Then I would like the whole TABS section removed, as I don't know how to play an instrument.
Speaking for myself, can't those of us who would like to talk about it feel free to talk about it HERE with others who also have it? And I promise to talk about it at length for months to come, as I am sure a great contingent of us will. |

You're talking about a bootleg. The album is not released. Are you a member of the press? Radio? Then why do you have a copy? Your copy is illegal. That's the black and white of the law. Does FB care? Probably not much. In the "released" sense of the word, the album is not released. It's been bootlegged. Show some respect for those who care to stay within the boundaries of legality.

yes and the whole General section just because I can only talk about FB and don't have a general life!
(btw I'm back, the Linkin Park kids blocked me since I asked them if the guitarplayer listens to better music on his headphones while he is randomly strumming chords on his 7 snare metal guitar)

So, for the sake of argument (and since we seem to be arguing), what if discussion is confined only to songs that have been released on HearItAgain.net recordings or radio performances? Is that illegal? |
