BG, you do need to get you some Ween. I've recently fallen in love with White Pepper as well as the Mollusk. Ween rule, I realize that now. And Enon are pretty great, I really enjoyed High Society. My mate at work tells me all about Mogwai, and I've tried to get into Pavement many times, but it just doesn't seem to happen. Yet I dig SM's solo work.. weird. GBV are another must have. What do you have of Bob's work? There is a MASSIVE amount of material, and I can provide you with some essentials.
ok, now i'm answering the damn thing. you are very generous for the promise of bob things tho. i don't own any of his solo stuff(my god he's released 40 albums since i was born!) and would love to hear them just get mogwai's happy songs for happy people. just get it! i have downloaded lots of enon and ween(i'm listenin to voodoo lady right now!) but haven't got the chance to puchase them. i might buy white pepper next week, if i have money left over from witnness. and i'll get some more in LA. and enon too.

Uh... okay. Ignore my other post... you'll see....
What I meant to say was I would provide you with a LIST of essentials. But if you really wanted me to GIVE some stuff, you need SoulSeek. 'Tis the sweetest thing to be given to man by God since Eve. White Pepper is a definate purchase, as well as the Mollusk. As for GBV, my word, the list is long, and there are some to avoid, and some that should be heard before others. It all depends on what you have already. I will look into happy songs. Did you know the original title for that album was "Bag of Agony"? I'm assuming there was some negative reaction to that title (perhaps from the label) and "Happy Songs for Happy People" was a reactionary title. I love it. |

I could never compile a list here at work, I need my suitcase filled with Bobism in front of me to properly sort through. The list would end up being rather lengthy, I assume, and may take me an eve or two to compile and spinkle with love. I can email it to you if you like, madame. |

Mogwai's "happy songs for happy people" is on rotation in my car quite frequently these days. I had never heard them before, but that album is fucking brilliant. Can anyone recommend any other good Mogwai albums?
the Ween album "chocolate and cheese" is a must have too. i've also heard their four-track recordings on "God Ween Satan" and those are pretty dope, though far more off-kilter than polished studio efforts like "chocolate" and "white pepper."
BG - pick up Royal Trux "thank you." trust me, do it. and then tell me your impressions after a couple of listens. i'm always keen to turn people on to Trux (i consider them highly underappreciated and highly unique, almost painfully unique at times) |

PT, you must listen to Ween's "the Mollusk". Just a fantastic quasi-concept album with a strange mix of great diversity and cohesiveness. I like both "White Pepper" and "the Mollusk" better than "Chocolate and Cheese" and "God Ween Satan", though I need more time with both of the latter.
Apparently the Mogwai record "Young Team" is really great, though I've only heard a few songs off of it. My Mogwai-loving friend tells me it is brilliant. |

i'm still kind of fresh on the Ween thing. I have friends that have been hardcore into 'em for years now, but I only recently picked up "Chocolate & Cheese..." Any other albums I have only heard sporadically from my aforementioned buddies. I'll pick up "The Mollusk" next, I wager.
And thanks for the Mogwai tip...its on my list now too. |

Your are more than welcome my friend. Enjoy the Mollusk, it's fantastic. White Pepper is a must have too. I might have to look into all this "Mogwai" business myself.... |

The Mollusk is definately my favorite Ween album. I enjoy it and White Pepper a lot more than Chocolate and Cheese, which I don't really listen to all that often. The remastered God Ween Satan is really good, except I don't really enjoy the long-ass Prince cover. Does anyone listen to The Pod? I rarely do, since I can't get over how awful it sounds. |

I haven't heard the Pod, and I really can't seem to get into God Ween Satan. I'm looking forward to the new album though, "quebec". I wonder where they'll go with this one.... it's a new musical adventure on every record. |

i've only listened to it once(not even..) i'm sure its good tho cos i always find the best albums are crappy on the first listen. all apart from surfer rosa, though.

What is it about the crappy on first listen that makes it great later? I didn't like Surfer Rosa at all on first listen. Now, I couldn't live without it. |

i think its easier to get sick of stuff if its over catchy. i was so infatuated with the pixies when i got rosa so i wouldnt have cared what it sounded like!

It's pretty funny how this has turned into a Ween topic...
But yeah, I'm looking forward to quebec too. From the hype coming from the band, it's their 'brownest' album to date. It's been a long time since White Pepper came out, I'm ready for new material.

This is for the benefit of those in North America; the Manic Street Preachers are one of the greatest bands of all time and you must hear them. Download "Motorcycle Emptiness", "A Design for Life" and "If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next" for starters.

You're right, the Holy Bible was the last album before Richey dissappeared and its beautiful but incredibly dark. They have other amazing albums too, especially Everything Must Go. If you don't want to take my word for it; Thom Yorke of Radiohead, Mick Jones of the Clash and Brian Molko of Placebo are all manics fans, while Greenday think they'e crap. Anything Greenday hates must be good. But seriously, the Manics are the most underrated band I know of and its a travesty that they have never broken North America.
