A two part question for you all:

1) - Out of the many songs Frank Black has covered which would you say are better than the originals?

2) - Also which do you think are not as good?

Better: Sister Isabel, John the Revelator, John Amos, Handyman

Worse: Hang on to your ego

I haven't heard a lot of the originals, but Changing Of The Guard is definitely better than the original. I'm with 10%r on Hang On To Your Ego. The demo FB did alone when he was with the Pixies (or was it after?) is totally better than the FB album version.

I agree the Pixies 'Hang On To Your Ego' is better than the FB version. I'm not a fan of the FB version....

Agree with El Barto, Frank's Changing Of The Guards is far better than the original.

The live sister isabel is one of the most intense and emotional songs I have ever heard. It's definately better than Del Shannon's. Going Down is good but not better that Springsteen's

My fave cover is the one Frank did with the Pixies, of Can't Forget by Leonard Cohen.

I love L.C but darn it, there's just something inherently "feelgood" about Franks vocals on that particular track...

Not as good is Hang On To Your Ego - sorry but I'm firmly of a beliefe that if you cannot do it justice then leave well enough alone and I guess if it were not so well known to me previously then I might have a different opinion of it, so its my own bias there.

I liked most of the Pixies covers: Winterlong and I've been Waiting For You, Head On, In Heaven, Wild Honey Pie. Evil hearted You was a bit strange, but I have not heard the original from which it was based - what was it like?
