i feel like JBR was just a toss off song th at was written at the last minute - nothing special about that song at all for me. of course, thats just my opinion, and its still better than 95% of the other music out there in the world

I too like Jet Black River, it's not a masterpiece but it's fun. It reminds me of that old Martin Short songwriter character. "Give me a B, a bouncy B" (it's probably not a B in JBR).

I agree with floop that Blast Off is one the best, but it didn't fare well in survivor. I believe it was somewhere around the 3rd song to go.

I'm pretty sure that Manitoba is the first time Frank has had a march beat in any of his songs, even if only for the intro, but it's exactly what's needed there. I love that little intro. I don't know what I did before I had this album, but I need more! It's like DW without BLD, you just keep asking, "Where's the rest?"

what's everyones favourite song on SMYT so far?
after a few listens i think that the album isn't as good as his latest work before but it's good average. it may take some time to grow on me.
by now i really love everything is new - a very beutiful song and my favourite at the moment

Have yet to hear any of the new album, and will wait until Sept. 8th this time around...although DID hear a handful of songs live a couple months ago and they sounded great. With both DITS and DW/BLD I had aquired promo copies months before the releases, and as much as I adored them, by the time they were released, I was ready for the next...I dunno...I'm a very impatient person...and I'm learning that patience is a virtue, so as much as I wanna hear SMYT...I'm gonna wait! But I'll continue to read all comments posted on the album so I can hear all the critiques. You know what this website needs? A SINGLES section! It could be called the FRANKBLACK CUPID CORNER. Anyhow...

I like My Favorite Kiss--it's got that dreamy surf guitar. Also Everything Is New & Coastline.

Hmmm...coulda fooled me as those beautiful leads sound just like Lyle Workman. Regardless, that is an amazing song that seems to be oft-overlooked for some reason............

I've listened to SMYT just once. Everything Is New and Massif Centrale were instant winners! I can't wait to hear it again-waiting for my bro to burn it.
And yes, of course I will be buying the album.

I'm starting to think this is right up there with Black Letter Days. Anyone who still needs the album, contact me on AIM and maybe I can help.

Yep I'm on Kazaa right now. I have tons of Frank Black and the Catholics mp3's so if you find me as a user, click on "get more files" and it's in there. I think a direct search for "Show Me Your Tears" doesn't turn up anything with only 1 user.

It is also fairly easy to find on soulseek. I downloaded it but then deleted it without even listening because I'm forcing myself to wait, which is very hard

Ive had the album for about 24 hours now and ive listened to it many times - and it is very good. I'd agree that the sound quality falls somewhere between DITS and BLD, the immediate standouts were Everything Is New and Jaina Blues.....right now though i'm loving Massif Centrale (destined to be a true Catholics classic), Coastline (harmonica sounds great), and This Old Heartache (makes you want to break out the latino dance moves). Love the sax on The Snake too! But really its all good.

Well, the FB mystery 3 spins continues to Amaze me.

3 spins, that's what it takes for that music to imbed itself into my head like a soft spike.

I love it. It's lush, the harmonica made me want to jump for joy, I shoulda realized it was Ridgeway. Remember "Don't Box me in", anyone?

The TRUMPET? Who played the trumpet?

Trumpet sounds like a dirty word.

Anyway, this is just an initial review to say, it a beautiful and sad record.

Show me your tears indeed!

Ah, what an album - great stuff. Massif Centrale blew me away in about 5 seconds, so did Everything Is New. Another (!) strong album by this talented man. Great weather, great music what more could you ask for...

Stuart: no he´s not, at least not according to the Roskilde Festival homepage. If Mr Black had played Roskilde this weekend I would have shit my pants out of frustration for missing it. WILL catch him in Sweden when (if) he and the C´s show up.

Cooking Vinyl sent us a copy a week or so ago, and I think its pretty good - I don't have the last two albums, as I wasn't sure about them, but this one felt more "back on track" to me and my not knowing as much of FB solo as I should.... makes me want to go back to the last two anyway, and try again.....

looking forward to the Underworld gig too... should be fab!

Give the last two a go - they are well worth it. If you like this one I'm sure you will love them both.

A better title for the upcoming album: "Show Me You're Nuts"
Get it? Do you GET it? I do, at least.

My wife loves Bob Dylan overall. I've chosen Frank Black. Both her and I are musicians and I think favorite artists can indicate how a person views and approaches music. I'm all about innovation, while she's writing within set-limits.
