If you're having trouble searching for it on SoulSeek, it's because of the way it's named. Searching for "Frank Black and the Catholics Show Me Your Tears" won't do it. The songs are label like so:

01-Nadine.mp3
01-Everything is New.mp3
etc..

I searched for just "Frank Black" and got a list about a mile long. If you go through it carefully, you should find them somewhere in there. Good luck!

PS More people than just misfit08 have it now, and at much higher download speeds.

Funny, haven't seen it on the Newsgroups yet....

Here's something i haven't really thought about - why do they do these promo's? Isn't it a sure-fired way to get leaks out? (Are they perhaps secretly *asking* for this?)

And why MONTHS before the release?

Something to ponder.. (And, why is nobody sending me a promo copy..haw haw..)

Dave, I think that is EXACTLY why they send promos out. I mean, let's face it, Frank Black is NOT a "singles" performer. He doesn't write 2 top 40 sounding hits per record and plug singles. He writes solid albums from start to finish.

While I don't think the labels would ever admit that they WANT a leak to occur, I do think that in reality they do. Like I said, the stats are in: indy artists are selling more records since the great P2P revolution. Indy artists, unlike the major label artists, depend much much more on a word of mouth advertising campaign. And what better way to get a lot of "buzz" going around via word of mouth than the leak an album a few months early.......

Of course, the other reason they send promos out is for the rags like Rolling Stone (though I say FUCK RS after the shitty "spin the record once and review it" approach they took to the last couple of FB records). Of course, the only way to really explain the reason the indies are constantly sending promos out MONTHS in advance is for the very reason I posted in the preceeding paragraph.

Artists like Frank Black are very "grass-roots approach" oriented. Good word of mouth and working hard out on the word touring is the key to their continued successes. And though Frank may not be going gold/platinum with his records, I would bet good money that he is still turning around a pretty darn healthy profit as he has very little expense wrapped up in his records/tours, unlike the major label slaves that HAVE to sell 500,000 or 1,000,000 copies of an album to start turning any kind of profit.

Hi all. I just joined up after listening to Show Me... Used to get around on different Frank boards a few years ago, but then life caught up ya know.

Anyway, my impression after abour 4 listens or so is Damn! This is good. Who produced this album? It has the sound of a Frank and the Catholics album, but it does indeed seem like better sound and much more polished than the last few releases. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore the last few, but they do have a more rough and ready recording sound to them. This time it sounds like a whole lot of thought went into the production and arrangement of the songs.

Maybe its a slight nod to the criticism that Frank needed to spend more time polishing tunes rather than firing out albums rapid fire. Whatever the case, this album has a bit more sophisitication going on. What do other listeners think, am I way off here.

Uh oh, gotta go Thunderstorm's a coming!

IMO, it sounds just a "tad" bit more polished than the last couple, but not quite as polished sounding as was "Dog In the Sand".

I don't really have an opinion on the album yet, other than I like it (of course, it's Frank, that's to be expected). But as to how it will fit in with the rest of the FB catalogue, as of this time I have no idea. I've only listened to the record maybe 3 times in all thus far. I think this one is definitely going to be one of those that needs to soak in the soul for a while before coming to a definitive conclusion.

There's a good reason to send the promo copies before the summer... Have you ever thought of the number of albums released in September? It's certainly the most "prolific" season of the year, and Frank's album will be hidden among the flow if they don't send the promos ASAP.

Poor Mereubu - you're Mac keeps screwing you!

So far, love Coastline, My Favorite Kiss, Jaina's Blues, and all the rest. It's really lovely and I am very pleased. My father asked me to describe the music and I said it was Frank in his "strummy strummy la-la" faze. He listened to The Snake and thought it was very Lou Reed-esque. Anyways...

Oh, forgot to say when I searched for it on Soul Seek - I searched using "the catholics' and came up with everything. When I did "Frank Black" I found nothing. Weird.

Yeah, Soulseek's searching function seemingly yields arbitrary results. I've downloaded the first three tracks so far, which sound quite good. Drums sound much better than on BLD/DW. Downloading just one FB album before its release won't kill me, right?

You won't go to hell if you die between the time you downloaded it and the time you buy it, but you risk several years in purgatory every minute you don't buy it honestly.... :)

No. But I think they DO play a LOT of ABBA. ABBA isn't hell, but it can get quite irritatin played over and over and over again for thousands of years, which is sort of the point of Purgatory.

Remember, Vatican II dismantled the concept of "Limbo", so it's unclear where people who had ignorance of the law (or all those pagan babies, for that matter)and thus sinned, go.

Better say a few rosaries and rack up those indulgences just in case.

Just got a hold of it last night. Digesting it now. Pretty mellow.
The feeling I get from it is very Tom Waits" and Leonard Cohen-ish (My favorite kiss) with a touch of Patty Smith (Nadine).

The Snake sounds A LOT like early Roxy Music, particulary the Manifesto album--with a sax and everything.

Massif Centrale has traces of the punk/pixies energy/chord changes and desparate hollerring. My favorite.

Horrible Day sounds very Pogues (is it a cover?) Its a sing along bar song. He does the Pogues "Dirty Old Town" live from time to time, so he's definitely in to them.

Its a very good album. Will buy it as soon as it hits the stores.

I have to say, (not to be critical in any way) I still sort of miss the Alien Love Affair themes of old. Franks songs used to evoke a sense of wonder of the mysterious. We all gotta get married and paint our dog house at some point. Keep them coming Frank!!!

i read all of you, and i must admit that it's very tempting to ask you Chip away boy to send me this new release. but, i prefer to listen it on september, for a few reasons :
- the excitement when you pull out the fucking packing
- listen it and look at the lyrics and images (and more?) on the cover
- to see the compact disc design
- because i love buy Frank's album THE DAY it's coming and listen in my car when i get home
- and because my patience will make this album better than if i just download it.

i'm not against downlaoding and MP3. i do it with a lot of artist. but not with Frank.

Heh, I often download an entire album before buying the CD, and I DO buy the CD if I keep the tracks in my library, while I have walked to a register with a stack of 5 or 6 CDs most of which I already downloaded. Morality usually wins out and I buy the discs. Aside from the morality issue, there's artwork, CD quality (I'm sorry, but mp3s aren't CD quality), and often for me (and my iPod) they serve as the masters of my library should I need to re-rip for any reason.

On a side note, Frank Black, Miracle Legion, and R.E.M. are of the few bands I've bought discs of without downloading completes to experience.

You can guarantee I'm buying SMYT on Sept. 8th, and I'll probably buy the EIN single if I can get ahold of it.

Even though I and indeed a lot of people here will be buying the disc, I fully agree with A4C that not everyone downloading it here (or elsewhere) will be purchasing. If you download it and don't like, then fine - I fully support trying the disc out. If you download it and enjoy it and play the <bleep> out of it as I have been, even if you're somehow tired of the disc by September, you should be buying it. But there have even been people who've posted things like "MAYBE" I'll buy it, just to prove his point. And these people shall be smoten.

Guess that means you'd better be deleting it, since to my knowledge they do not intend to release it on vinyl (Sarah, I'd be more than happy to be corrected on this). And it's not very cool to be enjoying Frank's music without returning the favour to him and the people who worked to put this out there.

Well we all know that Frank is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy underated! He needs our support. If you want to download it, fine. Just please buy it. The guy doesn't make the bucks of a Britney Spears or a Justin Timberlake --- and if I believed all that crap about christian judgement I would be worried for mankind about that particular injustice. How is it that most people cannot get into Frank? It's funny, I have created more Frank fans in my life...every girl I have ever dated has become a giant Frank fan (or at least spent every waking hour pretending to be, since that is about how often I play him...whew, how did I do that when there was only FB and TOTY to choose from?...oh yeah...all the beautiful pixies tunes) anyway, it makes me feel ill to see other bands achieve the kind of commercial success and critical acclaim that Frank deserves, with mediocre tunes...like anything from Coldplay.
P.S. My wife had the nerve to say that Tom Yorke was a better vocalist than Frank! How dare she!
