Hi, My name is mike,I am From Melboure Australia I just found this forum and its nice to see one such as this.
I'm into Faith No More and thats about it.
One lonely and cold night I was up watching "Rage" and it was hosted by Faith No More and they were playing videos that they liked. Roddy Bottum then went on to play a song by Frank Black, it was "Los Angeles", I decided I liked this song alot and left it at that. A few years later I downloaded it off napster it has since stuck with me. I was at my friends house the other night and he puts on this CD. a song starts to play that sounds familiar to me, it was "Debaser" so I ask what band is this? and he says: "its the pixes mike, with that frank black guy in it" and I say to my friend, "you will lend this CD to me and I will listen to it" he does and I then go home and listen to it. I enjoyed the album and heard songs on it that I had heard before, anyway, enough bullshit.
all I really say was hello and what albums would you recomend for me to listen to if I liked doolittle and "Los Angeles" ?
Thanks to anyone who bothered to read this...I couldnt even be bothered typing it :)

Welcome aboard, always good to have another member aboard - I suppose that if you like Doolittle, you pretty much can't go wrong with any of the Pixies records. I'd start with Bossanova, though others might say Trompe Le Monde and I wouldn't entirely disagree with them either. Like I said, you can't go wrong with any of the Pixies stuff.
As far as Frank's solo career goes, I would start with the orange album - his self-titled solo venture. It is actually the album that has Los Angeles on it and has a few other songs of similar tone. With each subsequent album, I think that the tone softens a little bit, but I would take it album by album chronologically (check out the FB tabs section to see what order) and you'll probably find that your tastes will evolve as Frank's do.
I wish I could rediscover all his stuff again, I kind of envy you. |

Yep, get any Pixies album:
Come on Pilgrim (1987) Surfer Rosa (1988) Doolittle (1989) Bossanova (1990) Trompe Le Monde (1991)
Come on Pilgrim and Surfer Rosa are on the same disc in Australia, which I find kind of annoying, but anyway....
Frank's first 2 albums, Self Titled and "Teenager of the Year" are also great. I dislike his third, "Cult of Ray". I find it quite tedious and it only features a few decent songs. After that he took a very different direction in turn with Frank Black and the Catholics, whos stuff I enjoy a lot, though I don't like as much as The Pixies or his firts 2 solo.
Frank Black and the Catholics are more like, I don't know, a band like Wilco or someone I guess than the Pixies and his early stuff. |

thanks everyone :)
I listen to Mr Bungle too but FNM I prefer more than them for some reason. another CD I have is "Death To The Pixies" which was part of a live album or best of I beleive? On hearing 2 particular songs which are "Digging For Fire", it reminded me Alot of Talking Heads "Once In A Lifetime" and another: "Here Comes Your Man" also is reminiscent of Taliking Heads too or perhaps some 50's pop group I can not recall :)

The first FB album I'd recommend would be the self titled one (since you like Los Angeles), followed by the Catholics' Dog in the Sand. |

You must get Surfer Rosa, now! If you like Los Angeles, the most obvious way to go is get his first solo album and go from there. |
