I was pretty bummed about the Pixies re-releases just having a new CD trey. I think Trompe Le Mond would benefit from this heavily. The master on CD sounds like two kids from some college got an internship and went to town on it (compare Planet of Sound from Trompe to Planet of Sound of Death to the Pixies to hear what I mean). Anyways I just decided to try and collect the vinyl records rather then cross my fingers for a re-master anytime soon.
Besides Ebay do you know an online retailer I can purchase the original vinyl records from? My buddy gets a lot of bootlegged vinyl off ebay so I would rather try a retailer. If you have any suggestions please let me know.

Thanks,

Jason

Its a bit of a disgrace these new Pixies releases, especially if you read Amazon and expect bonus tracks or enhanced versions.... they should release another live album in my opinion with songs off of all four albums (plus COP)

Hopefully we will be doing vinyl reissues, there's been complications with that too (gawd, nothing is ever easy over here!!!) I think we have all the relevant parts back, so hopefully sometime... I wont give a timescale though, cause it never quite works out like that - but everyone here knows that vinyl is something everyone still wants...

In my opinion the mix is the same with those two tracks, but the mastering is crappy.

Jo, tell em' that they have a complete set sold if they reissue them

If you rip the CD using Windows Media player and compare the tracks we have talked about, the volume and brightness is very blunt when you can play the intro from Planet of Sound on "Death to" then play the intro from "Trompe."

I love Trompe Le Monde as an album, but it really makes me mad. My best friend and I are in a band and we have to make a long drive to practice, so we frequently listen to all of them in a row. Once we get to "Trompe" it just makes me cringe. If I had a demo quality one, I could live with that, in fact I wouldn't mind at all. But all that compression really kills some of the recordings.

I don't think they should ever mess with the mixes, they seem fine. Just the mastering. When I talk about mastering, sometimes people think I mean mix. Cause "Trompe" sounds a lot better on vinyl. Maybe I should record the vinyl to CDR.

Seeing as how Trompe le Monde came out in 1991 (and not, you know, 1965 or something), wouldn't the CD and vinyl have similar mastering? The "original vinyl" and the CD came out at the same time.

Actually no. I listened to Trompe on Vinyl. There is not as much compression as the CD. The CD used all this compression that made the recording sound muddy. I'm going to record the record to .wav and burn it on CD.
Listen to Planet of Sound from "Death to" and from "Trompe" they are really different.
In my opinion it sounds like the record company tried to give it an overproduced sound during mastering.
