That should be interesting, does anyone know of any more BBC sessions the Pixies did that has yet to be released? In my opinion the first BBC sessions was way too short, whats the point in releasing an album thats only 30 or so minutes long (or 18 minutes for the newer demo release)? I have Rough Diamonds which has a few more BBC sessions (I think) but isn't too good quality.

Just checked the Amazon website, which mentions that a BBC live album with bonus tracks is being released on 20th May, however the track listing is exactly the same as the old BBC album....

They also performed:

Tame - wow this version is incredible!
Into the White
Wave of Mutilation (non UK Surf version)
Allison
Motorway to Roswell - another stunning version
Palace of the Brine

Frank did some demos in LA(solo i think cause the songs have no basslines and they use a drum machine); Hang on to Your Ego and a very early version of Velouria. Is She Weird from this session was used for the BBC album so i don't see why they can't use some more.

I uploaded those to the FTP a while back.

I'm sure that the version is going to match the UK one... god knows where Amazon etc got their info, but it wasn't from the proper sources... I'd just ignore it! I'll try get a proper tracklisting and confirmation of everything, but as far as I know, the only differences for this (because we don't want people to rush out and buy them again, well we would have had they been remastered, but thats another thread for somewhere else...) are that the albums come with a clear plastic tray, with nice colour underneath that matches the artwork, and that Surfer Rosa has had to have a catalogue number change for the US, to GAD 8030CD (which I could go into why, and if anyone really wants to know, I'll say, but its REALLY boring!). That will be the only difference with these as far as I know...

Cheers for the info, thats a bit of a kick in the nuts, Amazon are a right bunch of misleading arseholes..... maybe its a tactic to get more sales from Pixies fans.... Saying that, the link at the top of the screen isn't an Amazon link so maybe there is some truth in it, bring on tomorrow.

heh, and I just re-read what I said about the remastering... that came out wrong! I meant to say "I'd expect people would be more likely to buy a remastered version again" rather than what I blathered on with. Anyway, the only differences I'm aware of are the ones as above....

I dont think its a tactic - probably just someone there is a fan, reads fansites and gets the wrong information... it could be as simple as that (but highly annoying when people buy them thinking they are....)

Yeah, it's kind of inexcusable for the BBC collection not to have those extra songs. I know there were a couple early Pixies sessions that have been destroyed. The first Pixies song released to radio was Down to the Well belive it or not. I'm not sure if it was the Purple Tape version or an earlier demo of it. On that old interview from before Come on Pilgrim when Frank was still Charles and Kim did most of the talking on BCN (a boston station that used to be good) they were excited because Down to the Well had been being played a lot on the radio.

I also think it's rediculous that they didn't release all of BBC sessions...Into the White, Motorway, and Palace are fuckin steller.

Like many of you say,It's a shame that 'Live @ the BBC' didn't include every Pixies song recorded for a BBC session. But really, just get the Rough Diamonds boot. If you arrange a trade for something else its pretty much free-and includes every single BBC session+some other studio works. This kind of thing reminds me of the fairly recent Purple Tape release. Whoopee. 9 songs I already have-just different versions. Hearing new versions is cool but I'm not going to pay the price of a full CD for 1/2 of one. The Come on Pilgrim songs should've been added into the mix-plus the secret song. THEN you would have the full and true version of the Purple Tape and it would actually be worth the fucking money...Damn skimping record companies.

The sound on Rough Diamonds is pretty bad.

I'd much prefer to have them all on one official CD. I agree with you on the purple tape thing though.

Poor sound on Rough Diamonds??
Where did you guys get your copies?
Rough Diamonds is one of the highest quality Pixies boots around!

Mind you a FEW songs sound pretty lo-fi. Just say then they decided to release ALL the BBC sessions on CD. Those lo-fi sounding tracks would sound just as bad. They were RECORDED THAT WAY.

Actually that brings me to one of the reasons I think Live @ The BBC didn't have all the songs from BBC sessions, because some sounded crappy. For example, there were two versions of Wave Of Mutilation recorded at the BBC studios- the sweet sounding one you hear on Live @ The BBC, and the poorer quality one only found on RD.
Now what would be the point of having both versions when one would be clearly better?
Well it's still cool, and sound quality isn't everything you know. It's the spirit of the song. Try telling that to the record company, though.
I don't know about you all,but I'm happy with Rough Diamonds for FREE opposed to incomplete Live @ The BBC
for like $20.

I already own live at the BBC, (which cost me the equivilent of $9US) and would prefer to have them all on the one CD.

The dodgy sound quality for some of the songs would have to be because they were (probably) recorded onto tape from the radio by someone when they were played on air.

The BBC would have to have the originals in great condition in their vaults.

I'm not sure why all the tracks weren't included on the album, however, the tracklistings of these things do tend to be decided on by the band rather than the label...

so it could be something simple like that, where charles just didn't want the tracks on there? Nobody here now was from the old 4ad, so we have no definitive answer.... sorry!
