Anyone else a fan? I finally got a best-of compilation of the Sir Douglas Quintet circa 1968-75 a couple of months ago and I can't get it out of the CD player. It's some fun music--it's got a real nice loose sound and Doug had a beautiful drawling voice. Anyway, I highly recommend it if you enjoy a little twang in your good time. Wish I'd started listening to the guy when he was still alive.
I am a big Doug Sahm fan. I highly recommend his "Best of Atlantic Sessions" CD. Even has some Dylan on it. Very good stuff. If you really like Tex-Mex, his work with Texas Tornadoes is a ton of fun (especially when served with a cold beer).
FB actually turned me on to Doug Sahm by covering some of his tunes live. I had heard of Sahm, but, not enough to go buy a CD. After hearing FB was into him, I took a chance and was EXTREMELY glad I did. Sahm was a great and well connected musician that other musicians really admired. He also appeared on Austin City limits towards the end of his life, so, look for that as well.
Yee-haw! Thanks for the advice, cause I'm definitely looking to pick up some more Sahm. It's just the perfect music now that the weather's getting hot, and it has most definitely upped my intake of beer & mexican food. I don't even find his hippie vibe distasteful because he seems so genuine about it.
