this is aimed at those living in the usa but feel free to post even if you don't. on friday night i was watching ali g in the usa which i believe has already screened in america and afterwards i was wondering how its been recieved there. Do the majority of americans "get it?". i'm not implying americans are stupid but when it first screened in the uk a few years ago some newspapers didn't really know how to take it It's an aquired taste i think. when i first saw it it made me cringe so much i couldn't bear to watch it. i was also wondering how the racial aspect was being interpreted over there. |

It's the new black face minstrel show, isn't it? If I were black, I'd be offended.
But then I'd just whip out my gigantic black cock and forget about it.
Uh, by the way, that was sarcasm. |

Sometimes he's really funny. Ali G indahouse was pretty great. My absolute fav Ali G joke, is when he's talking to a drug expert, and he asks him "Is it true that the worst thing about Ecstasy is, it actually makes you LIKE house music?" |

It is really funny, though with the new series he seems to go down the route of trying to sound stupid more than 'witty'.
I can guarantee there are americans who don't get it. I'd only find it offensive if i were american. |

Did anyone see it a few years ago when Ali G hosted the MTV Europe awards in Germany....... it was quite funny (if you like that thing) but it was compltely wasted on the Germans who couldn't get his style of humour.... in fact a few people who recieved awards complained at the choice of host for the night.
Personally I reckon his work on the 11 O'Clock show (is that what it was called) was pretty funny, but after that I reckon it was obvious that most people knew that he was fucking around for a comedy series. Its the same with people like Dennis Pennis, and Alan Partridge, the first few series were pretty good but then it all became a little too predictable and boring. I'm agreat fan of Partridge but the last series was almost identical to the second series, but not as good.

i think that chris morris with the day today and brass eye are much funier than ali g. the drugs episode of brass eye was one of the funniest shows i've ever seen, apart from the dancing episode of the office. |

Did you ever see the infamous Paedophile episode of Brass Eye???? Chris Morris was pretty funny with the day today.... I wonder if he'll ever be allowed back on t.v. after that Paedo episode that everyone got their knickers in a twist about.
British comedy, I miss it big time, its the best in the world without a doubt..... the Office, Blackadder, Bottom, Brass Eye, League of Gentlemen, Partridge etc etc, timeless classics!

"An Angry mob today attacked a Mr Peter Phile". Stuart have you seen Jam, Morris's show that came after Brass Eye, it's a fucked up sketch show and is totally bizzare with weird ambient music and all these distorting filters on the camera. What was the name of the Elephant again with it's head stuck up it's own arse in a German zoo? I have to say that I think British comedy is the best as well, with American coming a very close second, but I'm biased cause I was raised on Blackadder and Bottom and Vic and Bob are my idols!

It was great that Chris Morris managed to get Phil Collins and Dr Fox to talk absolute bullshit.... classic stuff. I have not seen Jam, is that a recent program??? I thought that he'd been banned from T.V. or something ridiculous like that. I forgot tomention Irish comedy.... Father Ted, now that was a cracking couple of series.

I dont think he was banned, just that episode of Brass Eye. He has tiny cameos in Jam(it's been around the last two or three years, I think?), the father Ted writters are in on it too. Father Ted! What can I say, classic!

I know that straight after the Paedophile episode he supposedly fled the country and went to France to get away from all of the media attention...... can't blame him really...... I remember not believeing what I was seeing on the t.v. when that episode was aired...... fucking funny though. I like comedies that push the boundaries of acceptance......

Ye, he did a spoof Pixies song, but I never got round to listening to it, I really have to hear his and Liam Lynch's. He does a tampax add in the style of Nirvana on The Day Today.

Got into Ali G when living in the UK and I couldn't get enough. Compared with some North American reality/celeb piss taking I think it is head and shoulder ahead, although, at times he can keep pace with it's crassness.
Some of the stuff he got onto with the interviewees was priceless.
On Fashion with the designer and the question of the wonder bra: "She 'ad these... giant babylons man and we was windin' n doing de booggle man and den when I unleashed them they wasn't there".
With the Judge and the topic of the DJ/Drug deela and putting him down: "Pimped out Saab lights unda neith bitches in the front bitches in the back"
On joining the ranks of the Uppa Class: "Yo but what if I got a swimmin' pool made of gold and filled it with champaigne and I ain't talkin' bout the cheap stuff... then would I be in the uppa class?"
There are other examples, I suppose, but the common thead of chaos and an interview spiralling out of contol while the guest tried to stay PC was fucking hillarious.
Really, I only think it could have only worked in the UK because of the terrestral TV there being only 5 channels. Imagine your delight as a person with a little notarity getting a call to be on the six o'clock news... then Ali G shows up. Imagine not really knowing if he was for real (believe this is the case for several of the interviews)and trying to struggle though all the insanity.
I'll say it again priceless... could talk about Ali G for days one of the funnest bits I have ever seen.
Then when it got too big he just switched to Borak and Sacha Cohen rides again.
That's Better... It's about time I changed my signature |

i really like bruno the fashion reporter. i watched the show last night and he was talking to a hairdresser. he asked him if he had noticed that only the good people had long hair , like jesus, while middle eastern people, who are evil, had short hair. The hairdresser actually agreed with him. that sort of tv is priceless |

MORE WATEER! Nice one Steve;) Actually Gracie getting back to Ali G, I really liked his U.K. show, especially going to N.Ireland and asking them what "Gaylick" was, but I find him abit nervous and not as confident with his American guests as he was with his English ones. It was abit funnier as well with him playing such a fake gangsta "wigger" in somewhere likes Staines rather then America where it seems like more part of their national identity and he nearly blends in! It can be pretty cring worthy but he really knows how to take the piss which I love!

YEKSHEMASH HI FIVE! I LOVE BORAT, HE IS A BETTER THAN ALI G IN MY OPINION, I WATCHED IT LAST NIGHT AND HE UNLEASHED THE CLASSIC OF THE SERIES SO FAR. HE SHOWED THIS BIRD SOME PICS OF HIS WIFE AND AS SHE FLICKED THROUGH THEM THERE WAS A FULL FRONTAL OF MRS BORAT, NAAAAAASSSTY! NO SHAVEN HAVEN THERE. |
