yeah, i take drugs to find myself, reality, and to get inspired. marijuana, barbituates, amphetamines and magic mushrooms are some of my favorites. does frank take drugs, it would help explain his genious abilities. we all know kim deal is a big heroin junkie, but i want to be like one of my all time idols (FB) and take his drugs. |

i'm guessing that kim and kelly are both straight now.. or at least off heroin. you can't function for a long period of time while being a heroin addict.
as for FB, i really don't think he's much of a drug guy at all, except for beers and the green stuff. i mean come on, the guys a family man.. he's got two kids. it's not really cool to be snorting coke with 17 year old girls while raising two kids. (if you're not raising kids it's cool though).. it's not like he was ever mr. rock and roll lifestyle..
i'm not against drugs myself, and it's everyones personal choice and perogative what they do (my college career had it's share of experimentaion, in just about everything)... i think if you need to be high to get inspired though, then that kind of sucks..

I think Frank's genius stems from him just being a brilliant guy who writes great music. It has little to do with drugs, and wouldn't that make it a "fabricated" brand of genius and consequentially fake?
Don't get me wrong, I smoke pot pretty much daily and enjoy drinks every now and then. My days of tripping and other harder drugs are over (save for very rare occassions). I just don't Frank Black would consider any drugs "his" drugs, I don't think they are that important to him. I have read that he is a pot smoker, I know he enjoys his booze from time to time, and "His Kingly Cave" was written about when him and his woman ate some mushrooms and visited Graceland so I know he has tripped before.
Bottom line-who really cares? Drugs aren't that important, man--they're enjoyable as hell, but the real challenge is to find yourself and your inspiration without having to smoke/pop/drop/chug/inject/snort it.

I agree with floop. I was gonna say something about how it's sad that people need the aid of drugs to be inspired. Sure alot of great musicians have done drugs, and it shows in their music, but the drugs didn't give them talent. I'm sure they still could have made great music without drugs.

some people use drugs to be creative - personally, i think its a cop out when people say they NEED drugs to be creative - that means they don't have the talent/patience to do good work without them. just my two cents...

I think some drugs just let people's ideas flow.. they are a genius.. it'd just take a lot of work to extract the great ideas without some drugs or beer... though.. I've actually never done any drugs or had a beer.. so uh.. what the hell do I know. |

oh i agree with you guys, i never said that i NEED drugs to be creative or to be inspired. i just see it as a ritual to finding those things within yourself. i think i have a problem w/ them, being a 15 year old in high school, but damnit it kicks ass. haha, but yes, i think there is deffinately a point that the drugs become less of an aid than a fabrication. its just a journey to the self that i never understood untill i began using. am i making sense? and i think kim and kelly probally are clean now too, but there was deffinately a point where no one cared about the music so much as their battle with their own demons (heroin is a bit much for me). if frank is into marijuana mostly, it is interesting to see how productive he has been in his pixies and solo careers. seeing as all the propaganda against the holy herb wants us to believe that pot will make you just the opposite of productive.
i love that south park...drugs are bad... mmmkay. so dont be bad by doing drugs...mmmmmkay |

Yeah, I was about to say that Mike, I don't think he has any kids either. And I have heard from various people that he doesn't smoke pot much anymore either. |

I've also heard he doesn't really smoke pot anymore, but I wouldn't be surprised if other Catholics do. |

As an addict, i find that kind of sad that he's not into that much anymore :( . But we all have to grow up sometime. I'm just an "invincible" 15 yr. old kid. And maybe he's just REALLY responsible with his pets and doesnt want to be a bad influence on them :-P . maybe the frank black himself should answer this question *crosses fingers* |

no kids eh? i've heard from varous sources that he does have kids now.. but then when i think about it, i can't recall reading an interview or anything where he actually mentions them.. so maybe you guys are right. .
personally, i'm pretty anti- hard drugs.. that's just my personal philosophy... everyone makes their own choices, and most people i know have done just about everything under the sun.. i just think it's kind of lame to be doing hard drugs into your 30's. not that it's cool to do when you're in your teens and twenties.. but at least you have the excuse of being stupid.. |

I used to smoke pot pretty religously in my younger years, but I was pretty much "over it" and quit smoking by the time I was 17. I realized it just made me tired and hungry. I've always liked alcohol more, anyway. Hell of a lot more fun.
Also: I've come to the conclusion that this is the most fucking retarded topic ever. It seems like every message board dedicated to an "alternative" rock figure or band has this same exact thread. "DRUGS RULE MAN !!!! I JUST FUCKING HEARD ABOUT BURROUGHS AND I WAS LIKE WHOA SHIT STEELY DAN IS THE NAME OF A FUCKING DILDO ??? DEEP !!!!!" Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against marijuana toking, and like every finicky college freshman ever, I wrote a research paper on the legalization of the drug, but goddamn the retarded subculture that goes hand and hand with the act of smoking a joint. "IN THE NEXT ISSUE OF HIGH TIMES - ANOTHER BANAL, INCOHERENT, POORLY WRITTEN, AND ALL AROUND TOTALLY UNECESSARY ARTICLE ABOUT THE PHILADELPHIA EXPERIMENT".

so sorry for making such a shitty topic. i mean i think the whole "counter culture" of high times magazine and etc. is total bullshit. okay i was just fucking trying to see where my role model stands on the topic. sorry if all the people that are above drugs (some may be narcs, or just a better person than me) even had to see the offensive word listed as a topic. fuck you to anyone who can't let me be myself without bitching about it.
sex drugs and rock and roll...oh wait sorry if this phrase offends fans of rock and roll and throws them into a group that enjoys sex and or drugs stereotypically. |

Don't take it personal. If we don't all smoke or drink, then we do something (play video games/whack off....). Though, no matter what, the accomplishments of FB have nothing to do with whatever his bag is. |

faceforaudio, its not that we (i think i speak for some people on the forum) don't want you to be yourself - but this board is pretty relaxed and mellow and most people try and not flip out and whanot. its a message board! deal! no reason to get defensive and give us all a big "fuck you." on top of that, this is the part of the board about frank black and this topic was only moderately related to frank. it seemed, to me at least, to be more about your drug habits then frank's. if thats the case, it belongs on the general board. plus, this topic has been discussed before, and a few minutes of scouring the older pages/threads would have shown you a similar topic. all are welcome on the FB.net boards, just try and give others the respect given you (ie. not getting defensive and cursing people off for no reason). just trying to help

i don't see why we can't have an intelligent discussion about drugs..
there's certainly a huge amount of idiocy that tends to go with drug culture.. but i don't think anyone in this topic is saying "drugs are cool man!" and dropping burroughs references..
i personally worry a bit about faceforaudio if he's actually 15 and already into that many drugs.. either way, what's wrong with talkin' about drugs? |

I don't take no drugs (as far as beer ain't drug) think it's a personal choice I'm a musician and me and my band (the Buttshakers) we play speed rock'n'roll and green stuff makes me play slowly so I don't smoke and I don't need no drugs to be creative I'm even less creative when I'm stoned check my sound at http://citizenb.free.fr my voice's bad but our music rules ! I find that smoking pot puts me into a mode in which creating music becomes very natural. There is no thinking involved really, it just flows when I'm high. But then again, not all of the time. Not to say that I can't come up with/play music when I'm straight, but some marijauna if you got some, right? On the other hand, I play the drums really shitty when I'm high. I end up starring and fucking up because there's more energy involved, so I try to keep straight when beating the old drums.
I think it has probably contributed to me being the open minded person I am now, but who the fuck knows what I would be like if those damn older kids didn't make smoking pot seem all cool and shit. I try to stay away from the whole "stoner" theme, but in a town of about 4000 people, it's hard not to be classified by what people think you are doing. My friends don't know why they smoke it, it's just what all the cool people do. Fuck that. It takes them 3 bowls to get high, while it still only takes me a couple whacks, because I view it as a tool, not a statement. Even so, I can't see myself doing it forever. Without me, the pot would have nothing to inspire. The music comes from your head, not from the cheeba.

Some might argue that the American government, and British government as a matter of fact could do with chilling the fuck out, afterall alot of the problems in the middle east are partially as a result of past and current western policies.
