OK, so here's the thread you've all been waiting for to discuss the name for this compilation. Let's see what you guys have come up with or can come up with on the spot. Once we've finished the brainstorming, we'll see through an undisclosed method which is the most popular and then Faskner and/or anyone else interested can start work on the art.

I'm going to keep my suggestion to myself for the moment, but let's hear 'em.

This was what I recommended a few weeks ago but you told me to shut my trap and leave the naming til later. You have some nerve (joking).

We're Just Romanov

actually i came up with this for a tribute album name over a year ago. It's from Thalassocracy in case you didn't know. You know, since Frank says in it "You're just romanov-ov-ov-ov."

Here's a few off the top of my head:

1. "Everybody's Different" - excerpted from "Oddball"

2. "The Likes of Us Are Few" - excerpted from "Superabound"

3. "Freedom Rock"

4. "Dancing to The New Bolero" - excerpted from "Western Star"

5. "How Do You Love Me?" - excerpted from "Hermaphroditos"

6. "Take Me Someplace Cool" - excerpted from "The Marsist"

These may be lame. I had about 30 seconds at work to come up with them.

thanks El Barto. I think it works well because it describes what I envision the tribute cd to be (a mix of many different styles/versions from what I am reading on the Chat thread)...and its also just one of the more kickass lyrics.

"Dancing To The New Bolero" is great also!

Sorry to bother you with a grammatical question but why "We Ain't He" and not "We Ain't Him" since it's "You ain't Me" and not "You ain't I" ?

We're Just Romanov and We Ain't He are the best ones IMO. I prefer We're Just Romanov though.

Actually, We Ain't He might be grammatically correct. But I'm not too sure. Like, if you did a reciprocal-deal of We Ain't He it would be 'He Ain't We.' And that sounds better than 'Him Ain't We' if you know what I mean. This is getting confusing...

I think it's funny that you're arguing about grammar when the phrase contains the word AIN'T!

Is there anyone who doesn't care for the title? Because if we're all aboard for We Ain't He, I say we use it rather than putting this all to a vote and so forth.

That one's fine with me, although I must say that I think it would be funny to change it back to "You Ain't Me", as that makes it sound like a snarky commentary from the author himself...

Damn, is this gonna be a 3-CD set?

yeah, I think peter's idea is a good one. I like that angle better than "We Ain't He", because that sounds too much like the Wayne's World joke "Weeee're not worthy, weeee're not worthy".

Yeah, i'm curious as to how the actual selections for the CD are going to be weeded out of the fifty-something submissions! Dean, are you going to be el jefe when it comes to what's cut and what's included?

Well, I couldn't cut as many as I wanted, but I have cut a lot of you... :)

No, this is sort of what I'm expecting:

a) We will lose quite a few people by the wayside who decide they can't complete a cover in time or can't make it sound good enough that they want to share.

b) Although I've been stressing production quality and higher-end covers, I'm expecting some to be quite up to par.

c) In the event that we have a lot of good ones still (an enviable problem to have), I will fill the CD up with as many of the better ones as possible (could be 20-25). I think that will be lots and I really only expect to have somewhere between 12-16 that make it in realistic circumstances anyway.

It seems that we may need to have a vote on the title anyway, so I'll leave the title up for discussion a bit more before we do that.
It's not going to be an easy job to make this decision, and I suspect I will make a few enemies as a result of doing my job, but hopefully no one is too upset since everyone will be on the FTP. Also, hopefully the end result justifies my selections as well. I will not be choosing based on my personal preferences as to songs and type of songs, just on things like uniqueness, listenability, quality, and so forth.

Hmm, seems like there should be a "committee" for voting for the final cuts that make the actual "album." Maybe everyone from the FB.net web team (i.e. Jim, Dave) could, in a sense, all vote for which songs will be considered the album. I know you say you wont go by personal preference, but it seems hard not be opinionated or unbiased while listening to these.

Sure all the songs will end up on the FTP anyway, so I guess in reality it's not that huge of a deal. I'm just throwing in mis dos pesos.

As for the title, I like Peter's idea of having it just "You Aint Me" as if it's a comment from Frank himself.

I think "You Ain't Me" would work well if it were incorporated in the album art somehow. Perhaps in a cartoon bubble hovering over his scornful expression as he looks down on our pitiful offerings with disgust and contempt for all things mortal.

I'm going to leave the artwork decisions up to Faskner/Big Galoof, but I'm sure it'll be clear that that is what's going on. It could be pretty funny if we had a disgusted looking FB on the cover.

So, I think we'll put this to a vote... it seems the two contenders are:

1. We Ain't He
2. You Ain't Me

You can vote for others if you want, though. We'll run it like a backwards Survivor, vote for the one you want to win. Voting will close at 4:00 Central Standard Time tomorrow (Saturday).

You Ain't Me has grown on me a lot since Peter's suggestion, and that's my vote to win.
