no, its about 86 minutes - i find the best break point to make two semi-equal CDs is between Jane, the Queen of Love and Gouge Away

I'm having the same problem Bohemoth is, with a 55K modem. My connection is not the best so I get kicked off and then have to start over from scratch with the zip file download. At least with individual mp3s the download will start up where it left off.

I have sent an email to them and await a response. If I have to download the entire 80mb file at one go, I'll never get it. Already wasted too much time on it. If they can't come up with a workaround, Frank should know about it.

My 2 cents.

I guess I'm spoiled having a quick connection, 'cause the more I think about this, the shittier it becomes.

This deal should include a CD delivered to us.

A cd of wav. files, not MP3's.

That way everyone wins, Frank gets more cash, the site in question gets business.

It's a GREAT idea, but bandwidth problems will just create a bootleg market for these concerts.

It's a pain in the ass to d/l this thing on dial-up, and you KNOW that these people are going to get this show one way or another, despite all the pleading to keep this show close to the vest.

But, if you could just order it, and have a CD in your hands it would cut down on that.

Just an opinion aimed at the people that run that site, not at anyone here.

I still think the idea is GREAT!!!!!!!

But the delivery system could be tweaked in a way that helps everyone involved.

Since a soundboard recording of Friday night is available, do you think there is a copy of Saturday night's show out there? I was at both and was really hoping to get my hands on a copy of Saturday nights show.
The way Frank started the show along with songs like End of Miles, Heloise and Men In Black really made the second show edge out the Friday show.

Brian,

We had some technical issues with those two tracks, however, you can expect them to be on some upcoming recordings we're doing on the west coast in a couple of weeks.

I still don't really agree with this system..$12 for an MP3 bootleg is a rip-off, sorry. I'd be supportive if it were $2-$5 tho.
Not having a secure/encrypted server is pretty lame too.
Glad some of the $$ is going to Frank at least.

Dave,

Let's not refer to it as a bootleg (though I know where you're coming from--took me a few days to drop the term).

As for the price, consider that you're getting a unique, industry-revolutionizing recording....and it's 90 minutes of music!

Finally, I posted earlier about the secure server--we flipped the switch.....will be fully secure within 24.

I've been preaching that to the music industry since '97 (started promoting music online in '93!). I've come at this project from a fan's perspective always with the artist's interests at heart. The old ways of the music industry are leaving us and companies like mine are ready to step up and become the new 'music' companies...true partners with artists.

Buy it, folks. There's no difference between this show and a regular release except for the format. I agree mp3s usually don't have a very good sound, and $12 is a bit expensive, but don't upload it anywhere.

I guarantee the sound quality won't disappoint (hmmmmm.....maybe I should offer a money-back guarantee if you're not satisfied with the sound quality after purchasing and downloading??........Dave--how many people are in this forum? Offering a MBG is one way to encourage purchases....I'm open to any other suggestions regarding the promotion of this particular show; feel free to e-mail me at mike@cnotes.com)

I'm digging this bb.

mike,

glad to hear that you'll be "experimenting with shorten". us broadband users (and inveterate music snobs) are eternally grateful.

and - thanks for the info on the recording. i assume you use DAT as your recording medium? may i ask what kind of mics?

Hey Mike, thanks for participating here, that's really decent of you.

What encoder, codec and setting are the MP3's at? I'd suggest at least 192kb as well, and using the Fraun codec.

Of course, this isn't a bootleg, literally, but i don't think you'll dispute that most recorded shows are considered 'bootlegs'..a better term would be useful, since 'bootleg' is illegal.

There's over 900 people in the Forum, and well over 100 visit it daily.

What's MBG?

I'm not really concerned about turning a profit here, but i would like to see the show sold for at least half as much. Considering your 'overhead' is virtually nothing, there's a pretty hefty profit margin (assuming you make sales.)

Also, $12US is around $18CAN, and that's the price of a new CD here..pretty steep.

Again, thanks for being a part of the group, i think that's really admirable, and i apologize for the initial hostility. (I don't mean this as an excuse, but generally people who have something to sell just post and then bugger off, i'm glad you didn't do this.)

This pretty Much Sucks It Should Be a Download 1 song at a time thing. I E-mailed them When I couldn't Get it Downloaded In 13 Hours with my 24,000 conection speed and my computer will not stay connected that long. so they gave me another password and more Time I Would Have to Start from scratch every time it cuts off. Then eventually it says my time to download it has expired again. I really want to hear this show but I don't have my whole life to try and download it. Would anybody hook me up with a Burt Copy? I did Pay for it just can't get it Downloaded.

Dave, isn't LAME considered the best encoder over Fraun? Or am I mistaken? I rip all my CDs to 192Kbs when I want them on my harddrive. I know that the groups out there that rip CDs and make them available on the net rip at 192Kbps.

Hey Jim and Mike -- Fraun is the best, hands down. It's a professional, researched and designed codec.

At 192 it gets harder to tell the difference between saw LAME and Fraun, but at 128kb it's painfully obvious, and 160 quite a dif.

I accidently encoded some songs of mine for MP3.com (128kb) and i was wondering why they sounded like shit, and i realized i hadn't used the Fraun codec. (LAME instead, *thinking* LAME was as good..d'oh.)

At 256+, it's a lot more difficult to tell encodings apart, and i can't tell Fraun from the original WAV.

I think that needs to be added to the FAQ, i keep repeating myself..haha..
