Posted - 10/04/2006 : 18:13:03 Stumbled upon the following website today after the webmaster sent me a MySpace message for having Frank Black listed under my favorite musicians:
http://mog.com/frank_black
It seems to be a similar concept to MySpace, only more geared towards music.
Seems legit to me.
What really caught my attention was Frank's digital music collection. Check out what he has under his own name:
"Demo for pixies"
This folder contains the following three track names:
"0. dowhatuwantgyaneshwar 14. El Rey De Hawaii 15. Storm"
"Gyaneshwar" is, of course, a song Frank just debuted with his new live band.
There also appears to be a song called "Oh Oh I'm Falling in Love" included with the unmastered Honeycomb songs.

Posted - 01/23/2007 : 14:27:32 Not that I know of. About the Mog, Dean the Mod posted this in the news a while back
quote: In other various FB news, the recent backstage pass in Saskatoon was a great time. Thanks to FB and the band (particularly Billy Block) for really going out of their way to accomodate us and making for a great evening. FB performed an acoustic version of The Water for us, which, along with other highlights from the Saskatoon show, will be aired on FB.Net Podcast 20 for all those who couldn't attend.
From this meeting, we have a few tidbits of news to offer. One is that yes, FB's MOG site is officially gone. The reason for this appears to be that he left his email on, thinking he'd be a regular net "citizen". We may see it again in the future.

Posted - 01/23/2007 : 14:09:29 Whatever happened with this?
There were some other songs listed: Storm & El Rey De Hawaii ~ listed with Gyaneshwar, etc. So these might be FB/EDF W.I.P.'s I guess.
There was also a cover of Jimmie Rodgers Oh Oh I'm Falling In Love Again listed as a Honeycomb track. Did that one ever leak out?

Hey Denis, can you please explain this one to me, it's been baffling me for days. I'm not sure if it's cyber talk, French slang, an abbreviation, or what, and would love to know for future reference. I may want to drop it into conversation sometime.

Posted - 11/03/2006 : 20:59:53 If you hadn't been following the Mog daily, then thanks to Google cache, you can still see what I guess are Frank's final Mog posts. He kept struggling with the "of the Pixies" that they added to his profile.

Posted - 11/03/2006 : 14:24:46 A mini-label? Now that's the most interesting FB news I've heard in a while, if it's true.
And it totally coincides with his comments on that radio broadcoast a few days ago, that he'd release more and more if he could.
This, combined with the change of direction the brand new live material promises, has me psyched. |

Posted - 11/03/2006 : 11:50:20 This is just total speculation on my part, having read this forum every day for the past eight months and listening to every FB interview and show I can get my hands on ... but the dude has been so busy with touring -- and has been playing only a few new songs -- for me to believe there will be anything really significant available anytime soon. I've been reading rumors of a best-of album, and that seems plausible, but I bet that's all we might see in the next few months, if anything.

Posted - 11/03/2006 : 09:07:26 I agree, but what you may not know is that FB and Violet are working on their own sort-of mini label.

Wow, there's a bunch of new songs here:

http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/15902713.htm
"It's a live record," he said. "A combination live and studio record and DVD. I'm calling it the 'Frank Black Christmas' package. It's my gift to the world at the beautiful holiday season."
He can't confirm, though, that it'll actually come out before the end of the year: "Who knows? I hope so."
(hmm...)
1. To me, that quote reads like Sarcasm City. But I guess we don't know for sure.
2. I'd be surprised if something new was suddenly announced to be coming out before the end of the year. It's November. Most record labels usually announce 3-4 months in advance. If this is true, maybe it's some kind of prize in a contest or something. |

Posted - 11/03/2006 : 06:37:57 Very weird about the Mog disappearance...
As for the new album, I can't say for sure that an FB album coming out this holiday season is going to happen, but some fairly accurate sources have been hinting at rumours of this.

Posted - 11/03/2006 : 05:28:05 Perhaps they kept fucking around with his shit, and he said "hey, it ain't worth it to me at this point"? This hurts MOG immensely; Frank was easily their biggest name. I guess now it's all up to Michelle Shocked to take the reins while they attempt to rake in the cult/indie/too-cool-for-school demographic.
Another theory: Frank was intimidated by Broken Face joining up?
