What does he use? I'm sure this question has been asked many times, but I'm new to the forums so humor me.

What the hell kind of Telecaster is that white one Frank uses throughout the Pixies era?

That's a strange lookin' acoustic!

Definately a Godin, hammerhands!

Yeah, looking at your link, the electronics are a give away. Franks named in Godin's Players List, so a Godin it is.

Perhaps there was a beaver living in that Takamine. Or a load of particularly hungry termites.

ScottP Posted - 05/13/2006 : 18:17:14
Well then, I shall cover the pick guards with an abrasive that will sand down the sharpness of his picks, at the same time managing fingernail length.

Another invention I'm working on is the child trainer guitar. The guitar is programmed to "listen" to the chords of a particular song being played and if the selected song's chords are not performed cleanly and correctly, a highly painful electric current is released through the body and the neck of the instrument. A brilliant idea, really. I've already got Este'bahn lined up to do the infomercials.

I mean, who wouldn't like to see that guy get the shit shocked out of him?
Carl Posted - 05/13/2006 : 05:08:50
Maybe Frank used to use a particularly sharp plec, and he dug a hole in that Takamine.

ScottP Posted - 05/12/2006 : 17:18:34
I'm old enough for Kim to slap me in the face for being ungentlemanly.

Sounds like Frank has many Takamines in many different states of repair.

Idea!: I shall fabricate for Frank custom pick guards that protect those strange spots he seems to like to wear out of his flattops.
Ziggy Posted - 05/12/2006 : 16:21:35
Pretty sure he has several Takamines in that style. For the UK shows in 2005 it was cutaway Takamine, with a slightly less worn spot. Lol.

Come to think of it she's actually old enough to be my grandmother. Ahh well, still doesn't bother me.

I'm old enough to be her daughter.

Sorry, just on a bit of a wacky buzz.

Well I've only known of Kim over the last year but I really fancy her. Of course, she is old enough to be my mother, but that doesn't bother me at all.

True. I was thinking more of the cd versions.

Does anyone know the make of this one?
Billy Radcliffe Posted - 05/11/2006 : 13:06:34
I saw him in Cleveland in 2001 and when he played Ramona he used a 6 string and just detuned the high E string to match the B string... Thats why it sounds like a 12, because 2 of the strings are tuned the same.

I could talk myself to death, but I believe I would only waste my breath.
fbc Posted - 05/11/2006 : 11:33:55
I used to think 'Ramona' was 12 string until I stopped thinking. The intro especially.

Oh, and Old Black Dawning, too.
ScottP Posted - 05/11/2006 : 11:22:32
Hey, cool pictures, fbc. I can't think of any Frank Black songs that have a 12-string in it. I'll bet there are, though.
fbc Posted - 05/11/2006 : 11:15:13
"12 String" Francis

Has anyone seen CT play a 12 string post-Pixies?
Hatchetman Posted - 05/11/2006 : 10:46:09
I've seen him play a Garrison acoustic guitar...very nice

Here's his Takamine at the Troubadour in Los Angeles 2002. I'd guess the hole is bigger by now.

Carl Posted - 05/10/2006 : 13:22:04
Didn't he used to play a Washburn of some sort in the early Pixies years?

Holy Fingers Posted - 05/08/2006 : 07:35:11
Yes, I believe he played a Takamine on the recent Pixies reunion tour.

Ziggy Posted - 05/04/2006 : 16:50:15
He played some rugged Martin at the last UK solo show, in Camden, 2003, I think.

Those Takemines that Frank plays in the Pixies shows are lovely!
oktay Posted - 05/04/2006 : 14:33:41
One of his acoustics (the only one i've seen him play actually) is a Takamine. It's the one with the big hole right below the soundhole and a smaller one above it.
